    • A magnetic disk device having a base and a cover; a magnetic disk recording information on a recording surface thereof facing the base or the cover; a spindle motor fixed to the base and rotating the magnetic disk; a head for recording and reproducing the information to and from the recording surface of the magnetic disk; a slider having the head mounted thereto; a first suspension supporting the slider; a head arm provided between the magnetic disk and the base or the cover and supporting the first suspension on the side of the recording surface; and a carriage fixed to the base and swinging the head arm, moving the head in a radial direction of the magnetic disk and positioning the head. The magnetic disk device also has a second suspension provided on the base side or the cover side of the head arm and having a natural frequency substantially equal to a natural frequency of the first suspension.

    • A servo pattern writing method of writing a servo pattern for the positioning control of a magnetic head on a magnetic disk comprises changing the rotating speed of the magnetic disk with the magnetic head positioned at one or more proper radial positions with respect to the magnetic disk. The rotating speed of the magnetic disk is changed on the basis of the magnitude of a synchronous vibration synchronous with the rotation of the magnetic disk. Writing current for writing a servo pattern is set according to the change of the rotating speed of the magnetic disk. The STW rotating speed is changed according to the change of the radial position of the magnetic head to reduce the intensity of the vibration that is generated during a servo pattern writing operation to a value meeting a positioning level. The servo track writing operation can be achieved at a low cost.

    • In a magnetic disk drive having a magnetic circuit which provides a driving force to a carriage 7 holding a magnetic head so as to position the magnetic head, the magnetic circuit includes a driving coil 9 attached fixedly to the carriage and a magnet-yoke assembly 8. The magnet-yoke assembly 8 is supported in a housing at one point thereof so as to be able to rotate in the direction parallel to the surface of the magnetic disk. The assembly is rotatably supported by means of a bearing 14 and the bearing is provided with an initial displacement so as to increase the axial bearing rigidity thereof. A base 10 is provided with a slip guide 16 which allows the magnet-yoke assembly 8 to rotate with low friction and serves to provide the initial displacement to the bearing. A visco-elastic member 17 is provided for restricting the rotation of the assembly.
