      SOLUTION: The suspension device 1 has a piston 7 slidably inserted in a cylinder 6, a rod 8 movably inserted in the cylinder 6 and connected to the piston 7, two actuation chambers R1, R2 for filling the cylinder 6 with fluid blocked by the piston 7, a variable damping valve 3 for giving resistance to a flow of the fluid generated by a relative movement of the cylinder 6 and the rod 8, a damper 2 interposed between a spring upper member B and a spring lower member W of a vehicle, and a control device 4 controlling the variable damping valve 3. The damping valve 3 includes a valve seat 15 provided at a middle of a flow path, through which the fluid passes, a valve body 16 approaching to or separated from the valve seat 15 to make the flow path resistance variable, and an actuator 17 having a magnetostrictor 18 for making the valve body 16 approaching to or separated from the valve seat 15, so as to control the variable damping valve 3 based on a pressure in the actuation chamber R1 detected using the magnetostrictor 18.
