    • PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of shape defects in a metallic strip by cooling the metallic strip with cooling rolls which permit cooling of a gaseous heat medium sealed therein and evaporating at high temp. with heat transmission tubes for cooling provided in said rolls. CONSTITUTION:A metallic strip 1 is put on >=1 pieces of hollow cooling rolls 2 provided in a cooling zone in a heat treatment line and is brought into contact with the rolls 2, by which the strip is cooled. The gaseous heat medium 5 sealed in the rolls 2 is cooled and condensed on the outside surface of heat transmission tubes 12 for cooling and forms liquid drops 13, which fall onto the inside walls of the rolls 2 and stick thereon, then the medium is again gasified by the heat from the strip 1. The temp. difference between the temp. at which the contact of the strip 1 initiates and the temp. of the rolls 2 is maintained within a permissible limit by a method of controlling the gaseous pressure of the medium 5, etc. and the generation of the shape defects in the strip 1 is prevented according to the above-mentioned method.

    • PURPOSE:To cool continuously and efficiently a high temp. metalllic strip without disturbance in its shape by specifying the fall rate of the critical temp. for each one piece of cooling rolls in said strip. CONSTITUTION:A high temp. metallic strip is run at a specified speed in contact with a cooling roll and is thus cooled. The flow of the refrigerant to be flowed in cooling rolls and rolls is set within the range where the fall rate DELTATSCR of the critical temp. for each one piece of the rolls is expressed as the related equation (the temp. in the strip before contact with the roll TS1, the temp. difference in temp. before and after the contact with the roll DELTATS). The high temp. metallic strip is continuously cooled by combining 1- plural pieces of such rolls. The generation of crease, buckling, etc. in the strip is virtually eliminated by the above-mentioned cooling method, and the commodity value is improved.

    • PURPOSE:To provide a heat conducting roll for a metallic strip which can maintain the linear relation of heat conductivity with the rotating speed of a hollow roll in a high revolution region by providing holes for applying the gaseous pressure to pressurize and kill the liquid level in the roll body to the inside of the hollow roll body in addition to an inlet and outlet for conducting a heating medium. CONSTITUTION:A connecting port 6 for a pipe for introducing a heating medium and a port 9 for applying a pressurized gas are provided via a rotary joint 5 to the journal part 4 near the end of the above-described heat conducting roll body 1. A heat medium 3 is introduced through the port 6 and a liquid flow port 7 into the cavity 2 in the roll body 1 and is released through an outlet (not shown). A metallic strip wound on the outside circumference of the body 1 is heated or cooled by the surface of the body during such circulation of the heat medium. The pressurized gas past the port 9 is introduced together with the heat medium 3 through a labyrinth packing 8 into the cavity 2 to maintain adequately the liquid level of the medium 3 in the cavity 2 by said pressure. As a result, the heat exchange efficiency between the body 1 and the metallic strip traveling in contact with the outside circumference thereof is linearly improved according to the rotating speed of the roll.
