      SOLUTION: The internal combustion engine K comprises a water injection nozzle 11, a water pump 9 pressurizing injection water to a specified pressure to supply it into the water injection nozzle 11, and a heat exchanger 10, disposed between the water injection nozzle 11 and the water pump 9, recovering heat from combustion exhaust emissions to heat the injection water up to a specified temperature. The engine is able to execute an energy saving cycle in addition to a normal combustion cycle, performing exhaust strokes of the normal combustion cycle followed by the energy saving cycle with specified frequency.

The apparatus detects the failure of the fuel supply valve, based on a vibration strength when the valve is opened and closed, and issues a warning.

An oil adjusting part 90D is provided which changes a ratio of a pressure of the oil flowing in the transmission side oil passages 90 and 91 and a pressure of the oil flowing in the engine body side oil passages 87, 88 and 89.

The device has a forcible vibration adjusting means for changing an integration constant and/or the amplitude of the forcible vibration based on the duration of a rich state or a lean state of the output value of the λ type oxygen sensor.
