    • PURPOSE:To reduce welding deformation and deposition and improve finish dimensional accuracy by using I groove in a fillet welding of a web and flange that constitute structural members and filling corresponding filling material. CONSTITUTION:When fillet welding of a web 11 and a flange 12, I groove is used, and at the same time, a backing 13 is provided at inside end of the web 11 in the full penetration weld zone (a) corresponding to the joint part. Filling material 14 of required thickness (h) is filled in the groove in ordinary incomplete penetration weld zone (b). Further, the transitional part (c) in the middle of the full penetration weld zone (a) and incomplete penetration weld zone (b) is formed in a body with the filling material. A slanted part of the filling material thickness of which is increased successively from the full penetration weld zone (a) to the direction of incomplete penetration weld zone (b) is provided. This welding process is performed at four fillet parts between two webs and two flanges and a columnar structural member having box shaped section is obtained.
