    • A hydraulic control apparatus for a vehicle power transmitting system having a continuously variable transmission having a first and a second shaft, a pair of variable-diameter pulleys provided on the shafts, a belt connecting the pulleys, and two hydraulic actuators for changing diameters of the pulleys. The apparatus includes a directional control valve for supplying a fluid from a pressure line to one of the two actuators while discharging the fluid from the other actuator, a first fluid passage connected to the directional control valve, for primarily supplying the fluid from the pressure line to a driving side actuator of the two actuators which is provided on a driving one of the first and second shafts, a second fluid passage connected to the directional control valve, for primarily supplying the fluid from the pressure line to a driven side actuator of the hydraulic actuators, and a flow restrictor for restricting a flow of the fluid through the first fluid passage so that a fluid flow resistance of the first fluid passage is higher than a fluid flow resistance of the second fluid passage.

    • A hydraulic control system for a continuously variable transmission which has an input and an output variable-diameter pulley, a belt connecting the input and output pulleys, and a pair of cylinders for changing effective diameters of the pulleys. The control system includes a hydraulic source to supply a pressurized fluid for applying first and second line pressure to one and the other of the cylinders via a first and a second line, respectively. The control system comprises: a first regulator, connected to the first line, for regulating the first line pressure to be applied to the one cylinder, and thereby controlling a tension of the belt; a flow control device, disposed in the second line, for controlling flows of the fluid into and from the other cylinder, for controlling a speed ratio of the transmission; a second regulator, disposed between the hydraulic source and the first regulator, for controlling a rate of relief flow of the fluid therethrough from the second line into the first line, and thereby regulating the second line pressure which is higher than the first line pressure; and a controller for controlling the second regulator to regulate the second line pressure according to a predetermined condition.

    • A hydraulic control system for a continuously variable transmission for an automotive vehicle, the transmission having a first and a second variable-diameter pulley provided on respective second shafts, a belt connecting the first and second pulleys, and a first and a second hydraulic cylinder for changing effective diameters of the pulleys. The system includes a first pressure regulating valve, a shift-control valve for applying the first line pressure to one of the cylinders, and a second pressure regulating valve for regulating a pressure of the fluid flowing from the other cylinder, and thereby establishing a second line pressure. The system further includes a control device for controlling the shift-control valve so that an actual speed ratio of the transmission coincides with a target speed ratio determined depending upon a running condition of the vehicle. The control device is adapted to effect a feedback control of the first pressure regulating valve, to regulate the first line pressure so that a control error between the actual and target speed ratios coincides with a predetermined constant target value.
