    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a planting mat applicable to existing buildings and enabling the laying work and the removal work without necessitating much time, labor and cost and to provide a method for laying the mat. SOLUTION: The planting mat is composed of a mat frame having one or more cells having a draining port near the bottom and formed on the frame in the form of a recess opening upward, and having inward dent part in the lower part of a prescribed side wall of the cell. When laying the planting mat, a space for a prescribed channel is formed by the inward dent part of the cell. A water-retention layer is formed on the laying face before laying the planting mats on the laying face. Preferably, a water-feeding pipe is placed in an arbitrary channel of the space simultaneously with the formation of the space for the prescribed channel when laying the planting mats over the whole laying surface.
