    • The invention relates to a patterned light emitting diode device (10, 12) which comprises a layer of light emitting material (20) and comprising a light-reflective layer (32) being visible through a light-emission window (64) of the patterned light emitting diode device. The light-reflective layer comprising a pattern (45) constituted of local deformations (40A, 40B, 42A, 42B) of the light-reflective layer. The pattern may be generated via impinging condensed light beam (70, 72) which may enter via a rear- wall 33 of the light-reflective layer, or via impinging the condensed light beam through the light-emission window on the light-reflective layer. The deformations are preferably generated without altering the conductivity of the light-reflective layer too much. An effect of this patterned light emitting diode device is that the pattern remains clearly visible both during an on-state and during an off- state of the light emitting diode device. Furthermore, the light-reflective layer may preferably be the anode layer 32 or the cathode layer 30 of the light emitting diode device. As such, by maintaining the conductivity of the light-reflective layer, substantially any pattern may be generated while the patterned light emitting diode device still, in operation, emits light from the whole light emitting material.

    • The invention relates to a patterned organic light emitting diode device (10), a method of generating a pattern in an organic light emitting diode device, to a system (200) for generating the patterned organic light emitting diode device, and a method of calibrating the system. The organic light emitting diode device comprises organic light emitting material (20) arranged between an anode layer (30) and a cathode layer (32) and further comprises at least one current support layer (40,...50) for enabling and/or assisting and/or dimensioning a current flowing, in operation, through the light emitting material to cause the light emitting material to emit light. At least a part of the at least one current support layer is patterned by locally altering a current support characteristic of the at least one current supporting layer while not substantially altering the organic light emitting material, the anode layer nor the cathode layer. The current support characteristic locally determines the current flowing through the organic light emitting material in operation. By altering the current support characteristic, a pattern may be created in the organic light emitting diode device which is substantially not visible in an off-state of the organic light emitting diode device, and which is clearly visible as light intensity variations in an on-state of the organic light emitting diode device.

    • This invention relates to an organic light-emitting or light-absorbing device (20), comprising a light unit (30), a first flexible protection layer (35), and a second flexible protection layer (25). The light unit comprises a flexible bottom layer (24) having at least one first barrier layer (27). A bottom electrode (22) is provided on the flexible bottom layer, and an organic layer stack (21) is deposited on top of the bottom electrode. Furthermore, the organic layer stack is designed to emit or absorb light. The light unit has a top electrode (23) arranged on top of the organic layer stack and at least one second barrier (28) layer provided on top of the top electrode. The first flexible protection layer and the second flexible protection layer are arranged to encase the light unit, such that a large-area support structure is provided for the device. The large-area support structure provides a reelable organic light-emitting or light- absorbing device. The invention applies to flexibility and a method of adjusting this flexibility to the specific demands of specific large-area applications, such as space partition devices and roller blinds.
