    • The electronic device of the invention comprises one or more active elements, each comprising a first and a second electrode and an active layer of organic material separating the first and second electrodes. Examples of active elements are thin-film transistors and light-emitting diodes. The active layer comprises a polymeric material having conjugated units A and non-conjugated intermediate units B, which intermediate units B separate the conjugated units A from each other, such that no conjugation extends from a first conjugated unit A1 to a second conjugated unit A2. The polymeric material may be a polymer network, an alternating copolymer or a polymer in which the conjugated units are present in side chains. The polymer can be prepared from monomers having a B1-A1-B2 structure, wherein at least one of B1 and B2 comprises a reactive group enabling polymerization.

    • The invention relates to a low-pressure gas discharge lamp (10). The invention further relates to a compact fluorescent lamp and to a backlighting system comprising the low-pressure gas discharge lamp according to the invention. The low-pressure gas discharge lamp comprises a light-transmitting discharge vessel having discharge means () for maintaining a discharge emitting light substantially comprising ultraviolet light, a wall of the discharge vessel being provided with a luminescent layer () comprising a luminescent material for converting part of the ultraviolet light into visible light emitted by the low- pressure gas discharge lamp. The luminescent layer, in operation, has at least locally a temperature above 80 degrees Celsius and/or has at least locally a wall- load above 0.1 watt per square centimeter. The luminescent layer () further comprises a luminescent material (Y 1-a-b Ln a R b ) 2 O 3 , where Ln is selected from a group comprising Gadolinium, Samarium, and Dysprosium, R is selected from a group comprising Europium, Terbium and Cerium, and a > 0.10 defining a contribution of Ln to a lattice of the luminescent material (Y 1-a-b Ln a R b ) 2 O 3 . The effect achieved when using (Y 1-a-b Ln a R b ) 2 O 3 is that the low-pressure gas discharge lamp has improved color stability.

    • The invention pertains to a method of obtaining a pair of substrates spaced from each other by spacers (1) comprising: a) providing a first substrate (2) overlaid with a first layer (3) with a patterned hydrophobic second layer (4) or a patterned hydrophilic second layer (4) that can take on an electrostatic charge; and b) optionally treating the parts of the first layer (3) that are not covered with the hydrophobic or hydrophilic second layer (4) to form a patterned hydrophilic third layer (5,6); c) providing at least one of the first (3), second (4), and third layer (5,6) with an electrostatic charge; d) contacting the electrostatically charged patterned first substrate (2) with a dispersion of functionalized and charged polymeric particles (1), to electrostatically bond the polymeric particles (1) to the oppositely charged layer; e) optionally removing the functionalized polymeric particles (1) from parts to which the functionalized polymeric particles (1) are not electrostatically bonded; and f) thereafter connecting the first substrate (2) to a second substrate to give the pair of substrates.
