    • An electronic device comprises a substrate (12) and thin film circuitry provided on the substrate and having a plurality of contact terminals (22) provided over the substrate. The thin film circuitry comprises at least first circuit elements (40). A connector foil arrangement (30) has a first foil portion (36) having conducting tracks (32) which connect to the contact terminals (22) and a second foil portion (38) which overlies the first circuit elements (40) of the thin film circuit. The second portion (38) has a conductor pad (42). This device uses a connector foil both to provide external connections to terminals of the thin film circuitry but also to overlie selected ones of the circuit elements. The conductor pad can be used for lower resistance connections, for heat dissipation purposes, or for electromagnetic shielding.

    • In a digital to analogue converter, a plurality of digital inputs are used to select one of first and second binary voltage levels as binary inputs (10) to the converter. A capacitor circuit (C, 2C, ..., 32C) is associated with each input, and these are controlled to output an effective voltage to an output load comprising the first binary voltage level, the second binary voltage level or an average of the first and second binary voltage levels in dependence on the bits of the digital input word. The plurality of capacitor circuits can be operated in either a voltage divider mode (to provide an average output) or a resistor mode depending on the value of the digital data. Operation of the capacitor circuits in this way can result in a reduction in the currents flowing and can therefore reduce the power consumption.

    • An array device has switching circuits in each pixel for selectively routing one of at least two inputs to a pixel element. Switching transistors are connected between a respective one of the at least two inputs and the pixel element. The timing of the operation of the switching transistors is determined in dependence on the data waveform of at least one of the inputs, and a capacitive connection is provided between the gate of at least one of the switching transistors and an output of the switching transistor. This enables a reduction in the data voltage range which is required to ensure that the switching transistors switch correctly, by using a bootstrapping technique. In particular, by controlling the timing of application of the data signals for switching on or off the switching transistors, the voltage levels of at least one of the input signals can be used to provide capacitive coupling through the respective switching transistor onto the bootstrapping capacitor.

This arrangement allows for a low-power data refresh mode of the matrix array elements (100) with polarity inversion in subsequent refresh cycles.
