    • The present invention relates to a display device with a detection system for detecting an input position on a screen (301) of the display. A light guide (302) is arranged adjacent to the screen (301). The light guide (302) has a light source (308) arranged to emit light (310) into the light guide (302). The optical matching between the light guide (302) and its surroundings is adapted such that the light (310) of the light source (308) is normally confined within the light guide (302) by means of total internal reflection. However, a user establishing physical contact with the light guide (302) perturbs the state of total internal reflection, and light (310) will be extracted from the light guide (302). In the display device, light detecting means (303) are arranged to detect said light (310) and relate this detection to an input position where the user contact occurred. The display is preferably an LCD, O-LED or P-LED type display.

    • A method for addressing a foil display, comprising applying (S2) voltages to all column electrodes to bring the entire foil into contact with the light guide, applying (S3) voltages to all row electrodes without bringing the foil out of contact with the light guide for each line of said display, providing (S4) a corresponding row electrode with a voltage increasing the electrostatic force towards the light guide, and applying (S5) to selected column electrodes a voltage that reduces the electrostatic force towards the passive plate, thereby bringing selected pixels along this line out of contact with said light guide and then activating (S6) the light source. According to the inventive method, the ON-state of a pixel is reached by switching the foil from an intermediate position, between the light guide and the passive plate, to the active plate.

    • A foil display device comprising an electrostatically operable foil (15) adapted to locally be brought into contact with a substrate (12) to thereby modulate light emitted from the display, a plurality of pixel electrodes arranged on one side of the foil, each connected to a pixel circuit, arranged to apply a pixel voltage to the pixel electrode during a time period, and a common electrode arranged on the other side of the foil. The display further comprises means (32) for providing said common electrode (30) with a gradually increasing or decreasing voltage during the time period, so that a switching point in time for the foil (15) in a particular pixel area corresponding to a particular pixel electrode (20) is determined by the pixel voltage applied to this pixel electrode (20). The display device according to the invention is addressed using active matrix addressing, by setting the voltage level of each pixel electrode by means of its respective pixel circuit. Then the common electrode voltage is changed within a given range. When the common electrode voltage reaches a given value, the force exerted by common electrode voltage will exceed (or drop below) the force exerted by the applied pixel voltage by a large enough value, and the pixel will switch.
