    • An arrangement for aligning guide rails includes an installation platform arranged to be movable in the first direction upwards and downwards in an elevator shaft, said installation platform being provided with an apparatus for aligning guide rails. At least two laser transmitters are arranged at predetermined positions in the shaft below the installation platform, each of said at least two laser transmitters transmitting an upwards directed laser beam that forms a plumb line in the elevator shaft. At least two first position sensitive detectors are attached to the installation platform and/or to the apparatus for aligning guide rails and/or to the guide rails, each of said at least two first position sensitive detectors receiving a respective laser beam, whereby the position of the guide rails in relation to the shaft can be determined indirectly or directly.

    • A method and arrangement for automatic elevator installation includes marking each door opening in the elevator shaft with door reflectors, and creating a reference coordinate system of the elevator shaft with a robotic total station positioned at a bottom of the elevator shaft, measuring the position of the door reflectors with the robotic total station, fitting straight door lines to the measurements in order to form virtual plumb lines for the doors in the elevator shaft, marking predetermined guide rail positions on the bottom of the elevator shaft and installing lowermost guide rails manually to the shaft based on the guide rail positions, forming vertical guide rail lines, i.e. virtual plumb lines for the guide rails with the robotic total station based on the door lines, providing an upwards and downwards movable installation platform in the elevator shaft provided with platform reflectors, and measuring the position of the platform reflectors with the robotic total station, whereby the orientation and the position of the installation platform in relation to the elevator shaft can be determined.

    • The apparatus includes a stationary part being attachable to an elevator guide rail element at a predetermined height above a joint between two consecutive end-on-end mounted elevator guide rail elements. An elongated measuring frame having an upper end and a lower end is supported from the upper end with an articulated joint at the stationary part. A number of inductive sensors are positioned on the measuring frame, whereby at least a part of the inductive sensors are directed in a first direction being the direction between the guide rails towards a tip of the guide rail elements, said part being further divided into two sub parts so that a first sub part of the inductive sensors is directed towards the upper elevator guide rail element and the rest are directed towards the lower elevator guide rail element.
