摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the joining and adhesion of blanks when a disk is annealed, to improve productivity and to prevent the surface of the blank being damaged when punched by depositing an insoluble residue formed by chemical etching on the surface of the blank made of Al or Al alloy. SOLUTION: When an Mg-contg. Al alloy sheet, for example, is etched with an aq. soln. of sodium hydroxide, an oxide film on the Al alloy sheet surface is dissolved and removed, and then the film of an insoluble residue consisting essentially of Al hydroxide, Al oxide and Mg oxide is formed instead. The Al alloy sheet is punched into a disk to obtain the blank, the blanks are laminated, and the laminate is annealed under pressure. As a result, since the insoluble residue is interposed between the blanks, direct contact of the clean surfaces of the blanks is prevented, and the releasability of each annealed blank is improved. Further, the grinding speed of the annealed disk is increased by removing the oxide film of the Al alloy sheet.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for grinding a substrate for a magnetic disc by which a magnetic disc having extremely high surface flatness can be produced with high productivity only by a surface grinding machine. SOLUTION: A disc-shaped carrier 10 in which one or two substrates 13 or more for a magnetic disc are fitted is sandwiched by a pair of elastic grinding wheels 7 and the surface of the substrate 13 is ground by the relative rotation among the carrier 10, the substrate 13 and the grinding wheels 7. Since the grinding wheels 7 are elastic, the substrate 13 can be ground to a thin thickness by the carrier 10. The substrate 13 is ground to a thickness that is thinner than the thickness T of the carrier 10 by 10 μm. This reduces continuously gradually grinding pressure applied to the substrate 13 to make the substrate 13 of extremely small surface roughness and good flatness.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the degree of flatness of blanks without lowering the productibily of the blanks by producing disk blanks while stamping out alminum alloy dice and punches to a circular plate shape and by annealing blanks while opposing punch sides with each other of the blanks at the time of the stampings and while opposing dice sides with each other of the banks. SOLUTION: Blanks stamped out with a press working device to be used for magnetic disks are piled up while the face 13a of the punch side and the face 13b of the punch side of blanks which are bent and are to be overlapped are opposed and the face 14a of the die side and the face 14b of the die side of blanks are opposed. Consequently, since directions in which residual stresses are generated direct to opposite directions with each other, the resudual stresses cancel each other and the lowering of the degree of flatness due to the resudual stress in prevented. Moreover, since the contact area of the blanks with each other is very small, it can be prevent that the blanks are closely adhered with each other by the annealing.

SOLUTION: The aluminum substrate (blank) for HDD is immersed for 10 to 180 seconds in the phosphoric acid bath of 3 to 30wt.% phosphoric acid concn. at 30 to 80 deg.C or the mixed acid bath (total acid concn.: 5 to 40wt.%) contg. 3 to 30wt.% phosphoric acid concn. and 2 to 30% nitric acid concn. at 30 to 80 deg.C prior to polishing. The oxidized film layer of the blank is thus removed by one time of the immersion stage without the occurrence of overetching of the surface. As a result, the polishing speed of the blank is accelerated, the productivity of the substrate is improved and the margins for polishing of the Ni-P plating film after the Ni-P plating on the substrate are decreased.
