    • A reverse percussion device (30) for use with hydraulic percussive drills is provided. The reverse percussion device (30) includes a cycling piston (34), valve (36) and anvil (38). The piston (34) and valve (36) move in opposing directions between low and high pressure passages automatically until a lodged drill bit (18) is freed, thereby facilitating removal of the drill bit (18) from the drilled hole and eliminating alternate loosening and tightening of drill string threads (14). The reverse percussion device (30) preferably includes an automatic disabling feature which causes the reverse percussion operation to cease when the bit is free to retract normally.

    • A rotary blasthole drilling apparatus comprises a rotary blasthole drill (2, 4, 6) and a drill automation control system. The apparatus includes a pull-down motor (42) and a drill motor (44). The pull-down motor (42) is driven by a pump (72) to provide a pull-down force to a drill string (2) and drill bit (4). The drill automation control system includes a user interface (62) through which an operator sets a rotary torque set point that determines an amount of torque applied to the drill bit (4) by the drill motor (44). The control system further includes a detector (70) for detecting pressure in the pump (72) during a drilling operation, and a processor (79) which is operative under the control of a program (80) stored therein and responsive to the rotary torque set point (68) and signals from the pull-down pressure sensor (70) for generating an error signal.
