Also, by regulating the hardness of the external layer of the roll barrel to Shore hardness 97 or over, or Vickers hardness 940 or over, or Rockwell C scale hardness 68 or over, a change with lapse of time of the gloss on the surface is reduced. Further, by forming the external layer of the roll barrel with a sintered compact formed by a high temperature hydrostatic pressure, which is made of powder having deflection strength 130 kg/mm or over, further by making the external layer of a WC-Co base sintered super hard alloy whose Co content is 12 to 50 wt.%, rolls are prevented from being damaged.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control the tension in tandem rolling without affecting the plate thickness of a rolling material, particularly even if a stand equipped with an electric reduction means is used. SOLUTION: The tension between the stands of the rolling material is controlled by manipulating the roll gap by providing the reduction speed instruction value from a tension control device to the reduction means equipped with a reduction speed control system. Multiple dispersed levels of the reduction speed instruction values are set. The level closest to the consecutive reduction speed instruction values calculated with the reduction control system is set as the standard level. The one-degree higher level from the standard level is set as the upper limit and the one-degree lower level as the lower limit. When the consecutive reduction speed instruction values are within the upper limit and the lower limit, the standard level is fed in the reduction speed control system as the dispersed reduction speed instruction values in order to control the reduction speed. When the consecutive reduction speed instruction values reach the upper limit or the lower limit, the upper limit or the lower limit is set as the new standard level.
