    • PURPOSE:To detect the abnormality of lift-off by obtaining the difference between the transmission time for preliminarily determined proper lift-of and that for measurement and the difference between the transmitted wave peak value for said lift-off and that for measurement in a molten metal solidified state detector using a transverse ultrasonic wave. CONSTITUTION:An ultrasonic transmitter 20 is arranged in one side of an ingot 16, and a receiver 22 is arranged in the other side. A current is supplied to the transmitter 20 from a magnetic field exciting circuit 24, and a pulse current is supplied from a transmission pulse generator 26. Next, the ultrasonic wave is received by the receiver 22 and is inputted to a signal processing circuit 30. The transmitted wave peak and the transmission time due to a timing control unit 28 or the like are calculated by the circuit 30. A transmitted wave peak height corresponding to the transmission time for proper lift-off (the distance between the transmitter 20 or the receiver 22 and the ingot) is preliminarily determined by the circuit 30, and the difference between this height and the transmitted wave peak height for measurement is obtained to detect whether lift-off is too long or short. Consequently, lift-off is set to a proper value to accurately detect the solidified state of the molten metal.

CONSTITUTION:Detectors 32 and 36 detect the intensity of a secondary X ray generated by a Cu film 14 and a Zn film 16 on, for example, an Fe base material 12 to obtain integral intensity values Ic and Iz. Then specific data, said Ic and Iz, and Cu content Pc' selected temporarily are used and the 1st calculated value sigma1' of the shield coefficient of Cu and the sticking amount Mcz' are calculated from a logical expression. Then, the Mcz', Pc', etc., are used to calculate film thickness delta1' and further the 2nd calculated value sigma2' of the shield coefficient of Cu is calculated from, for example, a regressive expression. Then the Pc' is selected repeatedly until the difference between the sigma1' and sigma2' is coincident within desired accuracy and the Pc', Mcz', and delta' when the both coincide with each other are found respectively and determined as the element content, sticking amount, and thickness at the same time.

    • PURPOSE:To provide an external storage which quickly reflects an access state from a host and improves the access performance by updating an access frequency table in order of earlier sequences of an access sequence table and reflecting this updating result on the frequency data. CONSTITUTION:The addresses recorded on an access sequence table 16 are checked and a data cache device is processed based on the address check results. Then the access frequency is checked for all data. As a set type optical disk device 20 usually has an extremely large quantity of data, a host 50 has an access to just several percents of all data in many access. Therefore the access frequency check is preferentially given to the part that received an access from the host 50. Thus the access state can be quickly reflected on the rationalization of access frequency. As a result, the mean access time including the exchange of optical disks can be shortened and also the access state can be quickly reflected on the cache state from the host 50.

CONSTITUTION:When it is decided that an optical disk is abnormal, a request is given to a sending mechanism 36 to send the abnormal disk to an optical disk access device 18. Then the data stored in the abnormal disk are sent to a data cache device 16 from the device 18. At the same time, the data under transfer are registered in an address table 30. When all data of the abnormal disk are sent to the device 16, a controller 12 gives a request to the mechanism 36 to return the abnormal disk to a storing shelf 34. Then the position of the abnormal disk is exchanged with the position of the shelf 34 of a reserved optical disk.
