摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite electric furnace and its operating method wherein incinerated ash can be processed at an operation cost lower than a conventional one as the degree of capacity reduction and non-noxiousness can be maintained for processing, and refining to provide a stabilized molten metal quality is practicable. SOLUTION: An electric furnace is separately constituted of a furnace body for melting and treating incinerated ash and a furnace body for refining a molten metal. One power source commonly used for two furnace bodies are provided. A low load processing period and a high load processing period are alternately set at the furnace body to avoid redundancy of the high load processing period and the low load processing period at the different furnace bodies. A power feed control device is provided to distribute a power from one power source in a specified ratio according to the load amount.

SOLUTION: Burned ash together with steelmaking materials are supplied to a steelmaking furnace to produce molten steel. At the same time, in melting treatment of the burned ash, the amount of the supplied burned ash is controlled so that the concentration of Cu in the produced molten steel is rendered to be 40% by mass or below. The steelmaking furnace can be the one selected from an electric furnace, a converter, an open-hearth furnace and a ladle.

SOLUTION: A water slurry 2 containing cutting dust of silicon produced in the production process of LSIs is passed through a pipe 3 and a bypass 8 atached to a part of a plasma torch 1 and added to a plasma gas jet 4 at a high temp. to cause oxidation between the water and the cutting dust of silicon to obtain fine powder of a high purity silicon oxide. The obtd. silicon oxide fine powder is collected by a collecting means 5 such as a cyclone, bag filter or the like. The waste gas containing the hydrogen gas produced in the oxidation is reused and injected to a plasma gas jet used in a process to remove boron and carbon from metal silicon. Since a wire saw is used in a slicing process of wafers, the water slurry 2 sometimes contains iron. Therefore, it is required to previously pass the slurry through a magnetic separator or to add hydrochloric acid thereto to remove the iron content.

Copper hollow electrodes are used as the cathode 3 and the anode 5 and the plasma gas is sprayed to the metal silicon in oxidative atmosphere to melt it in the plasma to remove boron. Since the copper hollow electrodes have a wide discharge area and a long time to be exposed to the arc, the service life of the torch can be prolonged and the time required for the production of silicon can be shotened.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly and efficiently melt metal silicon and to remove boron afterward at a lower cost than a conventional method, by carrying out heating and melting of metal silicon by using two kinds of heating means of nontransferable type plasma heating and high-frequency induction heating in oxidizing smelting of metal silicon. SOLUTION: Metal silicon 1 is put in a container 2. A nontransferable type plasma torch 3 is arranged above the container 2 and a high-frequency induction coil 5 is laid around the container 2. The metal silicon 1 in a solid state is heated by a nontransferable type plasma and high-frequency plasma at the starting of melting and the metal silicon 1 is quickly melted. When the melting is approximately completed and a period for maintaining a fixed temperature starts, the plasma heating is stopped and changed to high-frequency induction heating only. Then, a mixed gas 7 of an inert gas and an oxidizing gas is blown from tuyeres 6 at the bottom of the container 2 to oxidize and to remove boron in the metal silicon 1. A heater for electric resistance heating may be used instead of the high-frequency induction coil 5.
