SOLUTION: This rectangular shield machine is provided with three set of front barrel elements 3A, 3B, 3C guided capably of being swung from each other by connecting pins and connected together in one line, a set of rear barrel 4 connected to all the front barrel elements through a plurality of intermediate bending jacks 15, and plurality of propulsion jacks 14. The intermediate bending jacks 152 are arranged along the inner circumferential edge of the rear barrel 4, the front end of the rear barrel is telescopically fitted to the rear end of the whole front barrel elements, the front barrel elements are constituted so as to respectively swing in the direction perpendicualar to the line direction setting the fitting part as the canter, and a plurality of front barrel element are constituted so as to integratedly swing in the line direction.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a trunk tunnel to curvedly drive by a shield machine, at the same time, surely and smoothly propel the shield machine by using a plurality of shield jacks, surely and smoothly propel an inner drum for opening a starting opening and bifurcate the branch shield machine from the starting opening.
      SOLUTION: A rear drum 4 is equipped with a first rear drum 8 and a second rear drum 9 internally fitted to the front end part of the first rear drum 8 in a slidable manner back and forth, a plurality of shield jacks 51 mounted to the second rear drum 9 and a first connecting member 42 integrally and detachably connecting an outer drum 8 to an inner drum 6 in a state to fit the inner drum 6 to the outer drum 8 are provided, a plurality of shield jacks 51 are used in a state to release the connection by the first connecting member 80 to open the starting opening 40 by integrally propelling the inner drum 6 and the second rear drum 9 to the outer drum 7 and the first rear drum 8, and the branch shield machine 1B is bifurcated and started from the starting opening 40.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a branch-type propelling boring machine which can branch and start branched shield machines from a propelling boring machine, simplifies the structure of a branch portion thereof, and contributes to reduction in production cost, to thereby enable excavation of wide tunnel under a road or a river under which excavation of shafts is difficult. SOLUTION: The branch-type propelling boring machine is comprised of the propelling boring machine 1 and the plurality of branched shield machines which can be branched and started from the propelling boring machine 1 in directions orthogonal to a boring direction. The branched shield machines are simultaneously branched and started from a starting opening 6, and therefore the tunnel having a large cross section and a wide width can be efficiently drilled. When the boring is carried out by the propelling boring machine, the starting opening 6 is watertightly blocked with a gate 7, whereas the gate 7 is slid rearward at the time of branching and starting of the shield machines.
