      SOLUTION: Brine is supplied to shield machines 1, 2 to freeze the natural ground around a joint part between a first shield tunnel and a second shield tunnel excavated by the shield machines 1, 2. The brine is cooled by freezing devices 5 arranged in the shield machines 1, 2. The freezing device 5 is supplied with liquefied nitrogen gas from the ground, and the brine is cooled by heat exchange performed between the liquefied nitrogen gas and brine by a heat exchanger 50 provided in the freezing device 5.
