    • A guide for an engine timing chain comprises a shoe mounted on a guide body, and having opposed, chain-restricting, side walls integrally molded with a chain-contacting shoe bottom. Each wall comprise a low portion, and an outwardly stepped high portion. The height of the low portion less than the distance between the connecting pins of the chain and the chain-contacting surface of the shoe bottom. The height of the high portion, however, is greater than the distance between the connecting pins and the chain-contacting surface. The high portion of each wall is stepped outward sufficiently to provide a clearance between the end of a connecting pin and the inwardly facing side of the high portion when the adjacent outer link plate of the chain is in contact with the corresponding low portion. The height of the high portion, however is greater than the overall height of the timing chain.

    • A plastic movable guide for a chain or other traveling transmission medium, comprises a guide body composed of a shoe and a slotted plate-receiving portion integrally molded as a unit from a resin, and a reinforcing plate inserted into the slot. A mounting hole adjacent one end of the guide body is aligned with a hole adjacent one end of the reinforcing plate. The diameter of the hole in the reinforcing plate is larger than the diameter of the mounting hole in the guide body, so that the inner periphery of the hole in the reinforcing plate does not extend inward past the edge of the mounting hole. The guide so configured exhibits excellent quietness and assembly efficiency and can be produced at a relatively low cost.

    • In a chain guide mechanism in which a pair of chain guides, at least one of which is a pivoted guide, are connected by mounting bosses a bridge so that the chain guides and bridge can be preassembled along with a chain and driving sprocket to form an integrated unit for installation in an engine, the chain guides include a chain-engaging guiding surface extending in a first direction from a location adjacent the mounting bosses, and a chain pressing portion extending in a second direction, opposite the first direction, substantially from the same location adjacent the mounting bosses. The pressing surfaces clamp the chain against the sprocket when a pivotable chain guide is rotated so that its chain engaging surface is moved away from the chain.

    • The present invention relates to a method for producing a porous resin particle having a functional group X, the method including: dissolving a radical polymerizable aromatic monovinyl monomer and a radical polymerizable aromatic divinyl monomer together with a polymerization initiator in an organic solvent to prepare a monomer solution, dispersing the monomer solution in water in the presence of a dispersion stabilizer to obtain a suspension polymerization reaction mixture, and performing a suspension copolymerization while adding, when 0 to 80% of the entire polymerization time of the suspension copolymerization is passed, a mercapto compound represented by the formula (I): HS—R—X  (I) in which R represents an alkylene group having a carbon number of 2 to 12, and the functional group X represents a functional group selected from a hydroxy group and a primary amino group, to the suspension polymerization reaction mixture; and the porous resin particle obtained by the method.

    • The plates of transmission chain for an engine are formed with a guide-contacting configuration composed of spaced flat surfaces that come into sliding contact with a flat chain guide, and convex surfaces, continuous with and between the flat surfaces, for sliding contact with a convex chain guide. The convex surfaces are connected by a concave surface that, with the guide surface, forms an oil-retaining clearance. The radius of curvature of the convex curved surfaces of the plate preferably increases gradually from the location where they meet the flat surfaces toward the location where they meet the concave surface. The plates can have the same configuration on the side facing the inside of chain loop as on the side facing the outside of the chain loop.
