    • An apparatus, system, and method for upgrading to a new codec used in a digital broadcasting environment are provided. The apparatus includes a first transceiver that receives a transport stream; a first parser that parses the transport stream to determine a codec packet, and decodes codec information contained therein; and a codec-comparison unit that compares the decoded codec information with existing codec information, and determines whether a codec should be downloaded. The system includes a device manufacturer that manufactures a codec packet; a broadcaster that transmits a transport stream containing the codec packet; and a rendering device that parses the transport stream, compares existing codec information with new codec information, and upgrades a codec based on the comparison. The method includes receiving a transport stream; parsing the stream; decoding new codec information; comparing the new codec information with existing information; and upgrading the codec based on the new codec information.

    • A mobile device positioning system and a method of operating the same are provided that can reduce the power consumption of the mobile device. The position-information transmitting apparatus of the mobile device includes a data-receiving module receiving positioning data from a mobile device, a moving-speed calculation module calculating a moving speed of the mobile device according to the received data, and generating transmission time interval information to transmit the data for positioning according to the calculated moving speed, a data-transmitting module transmitting the generated transmission time interval information and the position information of the mobile device to the mobile device, and a load-adjustment module determining a load according to the mobile device having requested the position information, and adjusting the generated transmission time interval information according to the determined load.

    • Data characterizing a read/write head of a hard disk drive is produced in a burn-in process. The method includes measuring the flying height of the head at a first temperature in a burn-in chamber, measuring the flying height of the head at a second temperature in the burn-in chamber, postulating a linear relationship between the flying height and the temperature of ambient air using values of the flying height measured at the first and second temperatures, and estimating the flying height of the head at a third temperature using the linear relationship. The elevation of the read/write head is then controlled based on data representing the values of the flying height as measured at the first and second temperatures and as estimated for the temperature. In particular, the amount of electric power supplied to an FOD heater of the head is controlled based on the data generated during the burn-in process.
