    • A symbol recovery system for a digital VSB signal finds sync pattern correlations in the incoming signal. The present symbol sync acquisition circuit also accounts for static which distort the signal during transmission. Initially, both positive and negative sync pattern correlations are accorded equal weight, with the non sync pattern correlations being accorded a negative weight. Values are accumulated in a segment integrator and stored in a FIFO having a location for each symbol position in a segment. A comparator initially produces an output when sync pattern correlations are found that add to a given value. After a relatively small number of correlations, as tabulated in a confidence counter, a VCO is enabled to change its frequency under control of error pulses based upon the symbol sync. After a greater number of sync pattern correlations, the symbol position in the segment is fixed, sliding to a new symbol location in the FIFO is precluded, the signal polarity is determined and changed if necessary, and a higher threshold is established for the comparator.

    • The present invention discloses a device and method for generating an auto gain control signal. When a gain of an input signal is very different from a wanted gain, an increase of an integral value is prevented by repeatedly resetting an integrator. Especially, the device can sensitively respond to a fast moving substance on a channel, by reducing a repeated reset period of the integrator. At the same time, it is possible to minimize reduction of the performance of a receiver due to a residual jitter generated by the shortened period. As a result, the receiver has an improved performance in regard to the gain variations of the whole channels.

    • The present description discloses a method and apparatus for displaying images. An image display method according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises the following steps: generating, from an inputted source, 3D image data to be outputted; taking, as an input, first information on whether or not there are a plurality of viewers, and, in the event there are a plurality of viewers, on the number of viewers, and second information on the viewing mode of each viewer based on the first information; generating individual synchronization information for the generated 3D image data in response to the viewing mode of each viewer in accordance with the inputted first information and second information; and outputting the generated 3D image data via a screen, and transmitting the generated synchronization information to the 3D eyeglasses of each viewer. In addition, an image display method according to another embodiment of the present invention comprises the following steps: generating, from an inputted source, 3D image data to be outputted and first synchronization information; outputting the generated 3D image data via a screen, and transmitting the generated first synchronization information to each viewer; generating second synchronization information on the basis of the generated first synchronization information in accordance with a received viewing mode switch request; and transmitting the generated second synchronization information to the 3D glasses of the corresponding viewer.
