    • A ball catch for releasably retaining a grooved shaft comprises a hollow bushing, a guide part mounted in the bushing for axial movement, rolling elements disposed between opposing surfaces of the bushing and guide part to facilitate movement of the guide part, and a hemispherical socket seated on the front end of the guide part. A locking ball is disposed in the socket and is seated on a plurality of small bearing balls to facilitate rotation of the locking ball. A spring biases the guide part forwardly. The socket and guide part are formed of deep-drawn sheet parts and are fixedly joined together. The guide part is configured to impart radially outward elastic biasing forces to the rolling elements to eliminate any radial play of those elements between the bushing and guide part.

    • A gear selector shaft of a vehicle transmission is held in respective positions by a yieldable latch element. The latch element actuates a switch when the gear selector shaft is in a predetermined position, such as in a reverse mode, so as to energize the back-up lights of the vehicle. The latch element is displaced by the gear selector pattern of the selector shaft in order to displace an actuator of the switch. A flexible steel membrane separates the actuator from the latch element. The latch element includes a first portion engageable with the gear selector shaft, and a second portion for displacing the switch actuator. The first and second portions are movable relative to one another once the switch actuator has deactivated the switch, so that the first portion can be further displaced without causing further displacement of the switch actuator and membrane.

    • An arresting screw is screwed into a transmission component so that a movable latch member of the arresting screw engages a gear shift selector to yieldably hold that selector in its respective positions. The arresting screw includes a core having screw threads, and a recess in which the latch member can slide. The threads and a surface of the recess are formed of metal. A plastic body is molded onto the core to close one end of the recess and to form a hexagonal head for receiving a tool. An electric switch can be integrated with the arresting screw for being actuated by the latch member. A housing of the switch is connected to the core by means of the plastic body. The plastic body can be molded onto the core and switch housing simultaneously or successively during the manufacturing process.
