    • A method of producing a first stereoscopic image is described. The first stereoscopic image has a first left eye component and a first right eye component, by mixing a second stereoscopic image having a second left eye component and a second right eye component wherein depth information is associated with the second left eye component and depth information is associated with the second right eye component with a third image having depth information associated therewith, the method comprising the steps of: at each pixel position of the first left eye component, comparing the depth information associated with the second left eye component and the third image at that pixel position, and at each pixel position of the first right eye component, comparing the depth information associated with the second right eye component and the third image at that pixel position; and determining the foreground pixel for the first left eye component and the first right eye component at the pixel position on the basis of said comparisons.

    • A method of inserting object data into a stereoscopic image for display on a screen, comprising the steps of: providing a first image having a foreground component and a second image having a foreground component, the second image foreground component being a horizontally displaced version of the first image foreground component; inserting a first opaque section into the first image, and a second opaque section in the second image, the second opaque section being a horizontally displaced version of the first opaque section, wherein the displacement between the first image component and the second image component is less than the displacement between the first opaque section and the second opaque section; and inserting the object data onto the first opaque section for display on the screen.

The method is for an image sequence which is displayable on a screen defining a screen plane, wherein the image sequence includes a stereoscopically viewable first object perceivable by a viewer on an image plane different to the screen plane, the stereoscopically viewable object comprising a first image viewable by a viewer's eye and a second image viewable by the viewer's other eye, the method comprising: performing a first edge pixel detection process on the first image frame to identify edges within the first image frame; identifying a feature pixel of the first image from the detected edges; generating a block of pixels including the feature pixel, performing block matching on a search region of the second image using the block of pixels from the first image frame, wherein the block of pixels generated from the first frame is correlated against the search region; and generating a disparity map by identifying a relative displacement of the feature pixel of the first image frame from a corresponding feature pixel in the second image frame

    • An apparatus for determining misalignment between a first image and a second image, the first and second images being viewable stereoscopically, the apparatus comprising: a determiner operable to determine a feature position within the first image and a corresponding feature position within the second image; a definer operable to define, within the first image and the second image, the optical axis of the cameras capturing said respective images; a calculator operable to calculate the misalignment between the feature position within the first image and the corresponding feature position within the second image using a model, the misalignment being determined in dependence upon the location of the feature position of the first image and the corresponding feature position of the second image relative to the defined optical axis of the respective images; and a tester operable to test the validity of the calculated misalignment using a random sample consensus technique, whereby the tested misalignment is valid when the random sample consensus technique achieves a predetermined condition.

    • An information retrieval apparatus is described for searching a set of information items and displaying the results of the search, the information items each having a set of characterizing information features. The apparatus comprises a search processor to search information items in accordance with user-defined characterizing information features and identify information items with corresponding characterizing information features. A mapping processor generates a map of information items, similar information items mapping to similar positions in the array, from a set of information items identified in the search. The apparatus includes a graphical user interface with a user control for selecting information items, and the search processor refines the search to identify information items relating to the selected information item. As such the user is provided with a facility for refining a search, and searching and navigating large amounts of data are thereby made easier.
