    • An apparatus for performing tests and measurements on liquid samples comprises three identical juxtaposed stationary trays each provided with a plurality of receptacles for the samples to be examined. The receptacles are integrally molded in the trays. The receptacles of the first tray serve as storage vessels for the samples, and the receptacles of the two other trays serve as processing vessels. Three stations arranged above the trays and displaceable with respect to the same in a horizontal plane serve for transferring the samples from the first tray to the second and the third tray, for adding reagents and for discharging the reaction products from the receptacles of the second and the third tray. Each of the stations comprises a carriage displaceable over the trays in an X-direction and a hollow needle for injecting and removing liquids supported by the carriage and displaceable with respect to the same in an Y-direction perpendicular to the X-direction. The carriages and the needles are driven by associated belts, each adapted to be displaced by an associated drum driven by a D.C. motor. The arrangement of the belts and the dimensions of the drums are such that the movement of a needle in one of the said directions does not involve a movement in the other direction, and that each carriage and each needle may be displaced through its entire range by one revolution of the associated drum.

    • Implantable biomedical sensor device for measuring in vivo the presence and/or concentration of physiological substances, such as the concentration of glucose, in a human or animal body. A miniaturized electronic responder (1) arranged in a closed housing (2) of biocompatible material in an electromagnetic interrogation field is capable of contactlessly exchanging binary coded information with a transmitter/receiver, and includes electrical connections (4, 5, 6) passed through the wall of the housing, at least a work electrode (10), a counter-electrode (8) and preferably also a reference electrode (9) outside the housing. The work electrode includes a membrane (13) with hollow fibers extending transversely to the surface of the membrane and having internal walls coated with a conductive polymer (15) and in which a redox enzyme (16) is disposed. One end of the hollow fibers is in electrical contact with a processing device (20) which converts the signals supplied by the work electrode in operation to binary signals.

    • A deactivation and coding system for a contactless antitheft or identification label, uses a pyrotechnic material to burn away a track portion, whereby an electrical connection is severed. The labels in the system according to the invention consist of tuned circuits in the form of one or more coil/capacitor combinations. Deactivation can be effected by severing the connection between a coil and the associated capacitor. Coding can be effected by severing the connection with one of several parallel-connected coils or capacitors. Coding can also be effected by removing an initial short-circuit of one of several series-connected capacitors.The pyrotechnic material may consist of one or a combination of the mixtures Pb.sub.3 O.sub.4, Si, Ti and Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3 ; PbCrO.sub.4, and Zr; Pb.sub.3 O.sub.4, Si and KNO.sub.2 ; and Pb.sub.3 O.sub.4 and Si or a mixture having comparable properties. The heat released during the combustion reaction can be used in combination with a thermosensitive paper for the purpose of causing readable information to appear on the label upon deactivation or coding. The use of protective foils can prevent damage to the goods on which the labels are provided.

    • An electromagnetic detection system comprising transmission unit for producing in at least one first detection zone an electromagnetic interrogation field. The system includes a plurality of responders having attachment element for attachment to articles to be protected, each including a resonant circuit and when present in a detection zone, in response to the interrogation field, producing a signal. The system further includes a first detection adapted to detect a responder and, on detection of a responder, to produce a warning signal. According to the invention, the responders are designed in such a manner that when the attachment elements are removed or when a responder is damaged, at least one frequency determining parameter of the responder is changed in a predetermined manner. At least one second detection zone is provided wherein responders with the at least one changed frequency determining parameter can be detected.
