    • Saturation variations are obtained by displacing a first fluid (for example water) that initially saturates a sample (1) coated with resin (2) by injecting therein, through a first end plate or cap (3) and by means of a pump (7), a second fluid (for example oil). The mixture flowing out through an opposite end plate (4) is collected in an initially filled two-phase separator (9) placed on an electronic balance (10). The first excess fluid flows towards a vessel (13), and the progressive accumulation of the second fluid in separator (9) leads to a variation in the total weight. A programmed processor (14) computes permanently the saturation values of the sample with respect to the first and to the second fluid, from the measured weight variations of separator (9). The method and device can be used for laboratory measurements of rock samples for example.

    • A selective pressure tap is used for measuring, at a point of a porous sample containing at least two distinct fluids such as water and oil for example and placed in a case or sheath, the pressure exerted selectively by one of the fluids. It comprises a body provided with a central channel that is externally threaded over part of its length so as to be screwed into a hole provided through the sheath. The body of the pressure tap comprises a ferrule externally provided with 0-ring seals. The end face of the ferrule is suited for pressing closely against the wall of the sample, during the screwing operation, one or several semipermeable membranes permeable to the fluid in question. The central channel communicates with a pressure detector through a pipe.

    • Volumes of different constitutive phases of a multiphase mixture contained in a vessel are measured after vertical stratification, mainly by comparing by two differential pressure detectors, the pressure generated by three fluid columns, one being totally filled with at least one of the fluids (a liquid phase for example topped by a gas phase), a second one with at least two of the fluids (one liquid phase for example topped by the same gas phase). The vessel can be, for example, an elongated column with a calibrated section arranged vertically and provided with pressure taps at three distinct points of the height thereof which taps communicate with detectors by appropriate fine lines. A processing set combines the pressure measurements in order to obtain the respective volumes of the phases. This method can be used for volume measurements in various vessels; notably in chemical engineering facilities and to conduct tests on porous geographic samples saturated with a multiphase mixture.
