    • The present invention provides a hologram recording material and a hologram recording medium that can stably maintain the shape of a recording layer and achieve high diffraction efficiency. A hologram recording material comprising a photoradical polymerizable compound (A), a photopolymerization initiator (B), and a dispersion medium (C). The medium (C) is selected from the group consisting of: a compound of the formula (I): wherein R11 is a divalent C2-4 hydrocarbon group, R12 and R13 each independently represent a C1-10 hydrocarbon group, k, l, m and n are each independently a number of 0 or more and 5 or less; and a compound of the formula (II): wherein R21 represents a divalent C1-6 hydrocarbon group, R22 and R23 each independently represent a C1-12 hydrocarbon group, and at least one of R22 and R23 represents a C5-12 hydrocarbon group.

    • A method for forming an information recording layer including a multilayer stack of reflection hologram layers modulated in the depth direction of a hologram material layer is provided. The method includes: generating a first pair of polarized coherent laser beams and a second pair of polarized coherent laser beams that are incoherent with the first pair; directing the first pair of polarized coherent laser beams to the hologram material layer from opposite sides thereof, respectively, such that the incident angles of the first pair are symmetric with respect to the hologram material layer; directing the second pair of polarized coherent laser beams to the hologram material layer from the opposite sides thereof, respectively, at incident angles different from the incident angles of the first pair; and forming the multilayer stack of reflection hologram layers according to the interference pattern of the first and second pairs of polarized coherent laser beams.

    • A hologram recording medium includes a support substrate, a hologram recording material layer, a transparent gel layer, and a protective substrate. The transparent gel layer is formed of a resin material gelated by cross-linking, or more specifically, such as gelated silicone cross-linked by hydrosilylation or gelated polyurethane cross-linked by polyaddition of isocyanic ester to alcohol. The transparent gel layer serves as a filler to compensate for variations in thickness of the hologram recording material layer. The transparent gel layer fills those gaps occurring between the recording material layer of the hologram recording medium and the adjacent substrate, without having adverse effects on the recording characteristics, in a manner that allows for controlling the refractive index.
