    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To create a seaweed bed having a base hardly flowed out by waves, or the like, and preventing the seaweeds from being extracted from the base even if strong water stream caused by the waves, or the like, acts thereon.
      SOLUTION: The seaweed bed is formed by laying a blast-furnace water-granulated slag having calcium carbonate films formed on the surfaces of the slug granules, or a mixture thereof with other bottom sediment-constituting materials on a sea bottom to form the base for attaching the underground stems or roots of the seaweeds, and inserting/proliferating the seaweeds in the base. The blast-furnace water-granulated slag has extremely larger stability in the sea compared to that of sea sand to extremely reduce the flowout caused by the waves, or the like, and further has high sear strength to cause strong force of constraining the seaweeds against the waves, or the like, to enable the underground stems and the roots of the seaweeds to twine around the base. As a result, the base itself is hardly flowed out by the waves, or the like, and the seaweeds are prevented from being extracted from the base even if the strong water stream caused by the waves, or the like, acts thereon. The problems of the elution of sulfur and the increase of pH of water at the initial time of laying the slag are properly evaded by using the blast-furnace water-granulated slag having the calcium carbonate films formed on the surfaces of the slug granules.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a submerged breakwater capable of maintaining a stable structure over a long period of time, while providing a water quality purifying and sludge deposit restraining effect. SOLUTION: This submerged breakwater is constructed by stacking steel manufacturing slag having a rate of a slag mass having a particle size of 100 mm or more being 60 mass % or more and a rate of a slag mass having a particle size of 30 to 300 mm being 95 mass % or more on the water bottom. The submerged breakwater effectively exhibits the original water quality purifying action of the steel manufacturing slag by preventing the deposit of sludge in a slag clearance, and can further provide the water quality purifying action and the sludge deposit restraining effect by the fixation and activity of an organism by forming an environment suitable for the organism inside. The submerged breakwater properly prevents the wash-away of the slag and the collapse of the submerged breakwater by external action such as waves and the buoyancy of epiphytic seaweed, and maintains the stable structure over a long period of time.
