摘要： Methods for plant transformation, for improving transformation efficiency, and for producing transgenic plants are provided. The methods comprise crossing a recipient plant from a genetic line of a plant species of interest with a donor plant selected from a transformation competent genetic line of the same plant species or of another closely related plant species to obtain a hybrid plant. Tissues obtained from the hybrid plant are transformation competent. These tissues can then be transformed with one or more nucleotide sequences of interest and selected for transgenic events having the nucleotide sequence of interest integrated within a chromosome derived from the recipient plant. Transformed cells can be selected and transgenic hybrid plants regenerated. The nucleotide sequence of interest can be introgressed into the genetic line from which the original recipient parent was derived, or into other genetic lines. Transformed plants and seeds are additionally provided.

The isolated DNA sequences can be inserted into a DNA vector to form a transformation construct for the expression of the isolated DNA sequences in plants. The transformation construct can be introduced into plant cells. Plants expressing the isolated DNA sequences can be regenerated from the transformed cells. Methods for improving genetic traits for nematode resistance in plants are also provided, comprising transforming cells with the isolated DNA sequences and regenerating plants from the transformed cells expressing the isolated DNA sequences necessary for nematode resistance.

摘要： A method for commercial production of aprotinin entails heterologous expression of the protein in plants, preferably at a level such that aprotinin accounts for at least 0.1% of the total extracted protein. An aprotinin-expressing plant also has potential of increased insecticidal resistance by virtue of producing the protein. A genetic map of the integration locus allows identification of plants derived from the transgenic plant. This approach also reveals genetic loci on a plant chromosome that support high levels of gene expression and can be used as site of integration for expression of other genes of interest.

摘要： The present device enables measurement of the susceptibility of corn plants to stalk lodging and brittle snap. The device is used to push over a corn stalk and the force used to push over the stalk, and the vibration of the stalk caused by the push are recorded. As material breaks in the stalk, an accelerometer, measures stalk vibration response to the breaking events; the data is then recorded to allow quantitative measurements of the susceptibility of corn plants to stalk lodging and brittle snap. This allows meaningful comparisons of various hybrids at early stages of hybrid evaluation and advancement.
