    • The invention relates to a mechanism for providing location information regarding mobile terminals, especially regarding WLAN terminals. In order that the known mechanism for locating users of a mobile cellular network could be utilized for locating WLAN terminals, a location service request concerning a WLAN terminal is received and routed by the same network elements that receive and route location service requests concerning users of a mobile cellular network. However, in the case of a WLAN terminal the location service request is diverted to a predetermined network element, where the access point currently serving the WLAN terminal is identified. The location information corresponding to the said access point is then determined, and the location information is returned as the location of the terminal. The location of the serving WLAN access point thus represents the location of the WLAN terminal.

    • The present invention relates to a method and system for locating a mobile terminal addressed in a location service request by an overlay identity. A database is accessed to obtain a first routing information of the mobile terminal based on the overlay identity, and the first routing information is then used to access a sub-scriber database in order to derive a second routing information and a cellular identity of the mobile terminal, based on which a location service of the cellular network is initiated. Thereby, a LCS clients of the overlay system (e.g. IMS) can be supported in current LCS services to enhance their functionality.

    • A mechanism and method for initiating a packet-based service session in a public mobile communication system, especially a service session for a group of users are disclosed. In order to accomplish a service initiation even if the terminals of the users are in a disconnected state with respect to the packet-switched domain of the mobile communication system, a triggering message is sent from one user terminal to the other terminals of the group. The triggering message includes information about a packet-based service session to be started, and it may be a message that can be sent via the mobile communication system to a mobile terminal that is in a disconnected state with respect to the packet-switched domain. In response to the reception of the triggering message, the other terminals are brought to a state allowing reception of packets belonging to the packet-based service session. When necessary, this feature involves establishing a connection from the other terminals to the packet-switched domain.
