摘要： A system for optical communication forms a family of orthogonal optical codes modulated by a data stream. The orthogonal codes are formed by creating a stream of evenly spaced-apart pulses using a pulse spreader circuit and modulating the pulses in amplitude and/or phase to form a family of orthogonal optical code words, each representing a symbol. A spreader calibration circuit is used to ensure accurate timing and modulation. Each code word is further modulated by a predetermined number of data bits. The data modulation scheme splits a code word into H and V components, and further processes the components prior to modulation with data, followed by recombining with a polarization beam combiner. The data-modulated code word is then sent, along with others to receiver. The received signal is detected and demodulated with the help of a symbol synchronization unit which establishes the beginning and end of the code words. A polarization mode distortion compensator at the receiver cooperates with a state of polarization compensator at the transmitter to mitigate polarization distortion in the fiber.

摘要： A system for optical communication send optical signals over a plurality of wavelength channels. Each wavelength channel comprises a number of orthogonal subchannel frequencies which are spaced apart from one another by a predetermined amount. Each of the subchannel frequencies is modulated with data from a data stream. The data modulation scheme splits a subchannel frequency code into H and V components, and further processes the components prior to modulation with data. The various data-modulated subchannels are then combined into a single channel for transmission. The received signals are detected and demodulated with the help of a symbol timing recovery module which establishes the beginning and end of each symbol. A polarization mode distortion compensation module at the receiver is used to mitigate the effects to polarization more distortion in the fiber.

摘要： A system and method for establishing an integrated forward error correction (FEC) scheme to perform multi-rate encoding on different priority data bits of a channel access message transmitted on a random access channel between devices of a communications network, such as between an access terminal and a base station of a satellite-based communications network. The channel access message includes a first data group representing first information and a second data group representing second information, which is transmitted between an access terminal and a base station in a satellite-based communications network. The system and method encodes the second data group at an encoding rate to provide a second encoded data group, and encodes the first data group at the same encoding rate to provide a first encoded data group. The encoding of the first and second data groups is performed by a single encoder, such as a rate ¼ convolutional encoder. The second encoded data group is transmitted from the access terminal to the base over a random access channel. The second encoded data group further can be punctured during transmission to in effect decrease its coding rate, for example, to rate ½ coding. The first encoded data group is transmitted from the access terminal to the base station, and is then retransmitted from the access terminal to the base station to in effect increase the rate of coding of the first encoded data group to, for example, ⅛ coding. At the base station, a combiner/demodulator combines the transmitted and retransmitted first encoded data group, and the combined first encoded data groups and the second encoded data group are then decoded by a decoder.

Pre-classified wideband signals are classified as a wideband NC signal or target signal using spectrum masks.

摘要： A method and system for tracking a time division multiplexed synchronization signal in a satellite communication system is provided. The signal is provided as a series of frames with beacon signals time division multiplexed into at least one time slot of each frame. The beacon signal in each frame comprises a unique word sequence, which is the same in each frame, and a portion of a PN sequence. The entire PN sequence is distributed into a plurality of frames forming a superframe. Frequency variations of the incoming signal are tracked at the satellite terminal by correlating the PN sequence of the incoming signal against early and late locally generated versions of the PN sequence in a discriminate circuit. The output of the discriminate is provided to a delay locked loop circuit of at least third order. The output of the loop is used to adjust the frequency of the VCO, which clocks the A/D converter operating on the incoming signal. The product of the PN sequence of the incoming signal and an on-time locally generated version of the PN sequence is provided to an FFT circuit. The satellite terminal determines if it is locked onto the incoming signal based on the output of the FFT. If the satellite terminal is not locked, the terminal returns to an acquisition mode.

摘要： Methods for using a detector to monitor and detect channel occupancy are disclosed. The detector resides on a station within a network using a framed format having a periodic time structure. When non-cooperative transmissions are detected by the network, the detector assesses the availability of a backup channel enabling migration of the network. The backup channel serves to allow the network to migrate transparently when the current channel becomes unavailable. The backup channel, however, could be occupied by another network that results in the migrating network interfering with the network already using the backup channel. Thus, the detector detects active transmission sources on the backup channel to determine whether the backup channel is occupied. Methods for using the detector include scheduling detection intervals asynchronously. The asynchronous detection uses offsets from a reference point within a frame.
