    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a fuel oil additive which improves the fuel efficiency of a diesel engine, promote the combustion of particulate materials (PM) caught by a diesel particulate filter (DPF) equipped on the diesel engine by promoting the oxidation reaction of the PM and efficiently reduces the PM and black smoke in the exhaust gas by virtue of the combined effect, a fuel oil composition, to provide a method for reducing diesel particulate materials and/or black smoke and a method for regeneration of a diesel particulate filter. SOLUTION: The fuel oil additive consists of an alkaline earth metal complex having a β-diketone structure or a β-keto acid ester structure. The fuel oil composition is obtained by adding the additive to a fuel oil in a specific amount. The method for reducing the diesel particulate materials and/or the black smoke utilizes the fuel oil additive and the fuel composition.
