    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of preparing a modified catalyst for manufacturing bisphenol A which causes no fracture of strongly acidic ion exchange resin, modifies the strongly acidic ion exchange resin uniformly and provides excellent catalyst performance.
      SOLUTION: A modified catalyst for manufacturing bisphenol A is prepared by partially modifying the strongly acidic ion exchange resin with a sulfur-containing amine compound. The strongly acidic ion exchange resin is packed into a fixed bed reactor, to which a solution prepared by dissolving the sulfur-containing amine compound in an aqueous acid solution is filled. Subsequently, an aqueous acid solution similar to the above aqueous acid solution is filled and circulated in order to modify the strongly acidic ion exchange resin. The modification is performed until the concentration of the sulfur-containing amine compound in the aqueous acid solution at the outlet of the fixed bed reactor becomes uniform.
