摘要： A computer-implemented method includes: detecting a first error while accessing a magnetic tape, determining a first error location on the magnetic tape where the first error occurred, determining one or more areas on the magnetic tape to be examined, independent of a read and/or write operation, inducing relative motion between a tape head and the magnetic tape such that the tape head is positioned adjacent to each of the respective one or more areas in turn, using the tape head to measure a number of servo errors that occur in each of the respective one or more areas, and identifying each of the one or more areas having a respective number of measured servo errors which exceeds a threshold value as a damaged area of the magnetic tape. The one or more areas are determined using a predetermined algorithm which incorporates the first error location.

摘要： A computer-implemented method, according to one approach, includes: receiving a request to read a plurality of files from a magnetic tape, and obtaining a tape directory which identifies regions on the magnetic tape in which the files are stored. The tape directory is used to map each of the files to one of the regions on the magnetic tape in which the respective file is stored. A first subset of the files stored in a same first region on the magnetic tape is also sorted into a first order. The computer-implemented method further includes simultaneously: sorting a second subset of the files stored in a same second region on the magnetic tape into a second order, and instructing a tape drive to read each of the files in the first subset according to the first order.

摘要： A method to improve magnetic tape file systems through tape-to-tape copying between nodes on a Linear Tape File System using a cluster-wide named pipe is provided. The method comprises transferring data between a first node and a second node. Additionally, both the first node and the second node implement a parallel shared-disk file system through a data path for node data reading and writing from a shared-disk and to the shared-disk. Further, to transfer data between the first node and the second node, the method comprises writing, by the first node, the data for tape-to-tape copy from a first tape drive to the shared-disk, and writing, by the second node, the data written from the shared-disk to a second tape drive.

摘要： There is provided a tape recording apparatus system capable of improving writing performance and maintaining tape recording density, for a multiple data writing request accompanied by a lot of synchronization requests from a host.
The system is a tape storage system including two or more tape drives each of which has a tape mounted thereon and is provided with a buffer divided in fixed-length segments, and connected to a host that sends multiple data and a synchronization request at a predetermined timing to these tape drives. This tape recording system is provided with: a tape drive connected to the host, receiving the multiple data sent from the host, and, when the segment of the buffer is accumulated and filled with data, writing the accumulated data onto a tape; and another tape drive connected to the tape drive, receiving the multiple data sent from the host via the tape drive, and dumping a predetermined number of data accumulated in the segments onto a tape at a timing of receiving the synchronization request.
