摘要： A method and apparatus for supporting routing area (RA) update in a long term evolution (LTE) general packet radio service (GPRS) tunneling protocol (GTP)-based system are disclosed. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) sends an RA update request to a new evolved Node-B (eNodeB) and a mobility management entity (MME). The MME sends an update packet data protocol (PDP) context request to an access gateway (AGW), whereby a new tunnel is established between the new eNodeB and the AGW. For an inter-MME routing area update, the WTRU sends an RA update request to a new eNodeB and a new MME. The new MME sends an MME context request to an AGW. The AGW sends an MME context response to the new MME. The new MME sends an update PDP context request to the AGW, whereby a new tunnel is established between the new eNodeB and the AGW.

摘要： A method and apparatus for implementing a handoff between radio access networks (RANs)(110a) deployed under different radio access technologies (RATs) are disclosed. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) (150) is equipped with at least two radio units to support the RATs. Each RAN sends a list of co-located RANs in the coverage area of the RAN to the WTRU. The WTRU stores the list and determines whether handoff criteria is met by one of the co-located RANs. The WTRU then initiates a handoff from a current RAN to a target RAN if the handoff criteria is met by the target RAN (110a). Alternatively, the WTRU may send a measurement report to the current RAN, whereby the current RAN determines whether handoff criteria is met by a selected one of the co-located RANs and initiate a handoff to the selected RAN if the handoff criteria is met.

摘要： A method and system for supporting an evolved universal mobile telecommunication systems (UMTS) terrestrial radio access network (E-UTRAN) are disclosed. The system includes a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), a UTRAN and an E-UTRAN. The UTRAN sends to the WTRU a list of available radio access technologies in a coverage area of the UTRAN. The list includes information related to the E-UTRAN. The WTRU receives the list and may initiate a handoff based on the list. The WTRU then sends its multi-mode/multi- RAT capability information including the E-UTRAN capability to the UTRAN. The UTRAN then sends a measurement capability message to the WTRU. The measurement capability message includes parameters necessary for performing measurements on an E-UTRAN channel. The WTRU performs measurements based on the measurement capability message and reports measurement results to the UTRAN. The UTRAN may initiate a handoff to the E-UTRAN based on the measurement results.

The architecture reduces station battery consumption, supports higher throughput for non-real time (NRT) traffic and is more efficient for real time (RT) traffic while maintaining full compatibility.

摘要： Method and apparatus for providing a solution to the handoff problem includes a handoff is triggered by the WLAN network 14 assuming that there is a real time session between PC 12 and a called party, shown at S1. WLAND network 14 communicates with IP network 18, shown at S2, the IP network 18 provides the two-way communication between the PC 12 and service server 22, shown at S3. Both the user PC 12 and UE 32 establish a connection with the network 23 at S4-S6. The user then decides to trigger a handoff from PC 12 to the UE 32 at S7 and communicates this handoff request to the WLAN network 14, which transmits an SIP message through IP network 18 to service server 22. 摘要： Method and apparatus for delivering voice/data services within a piconet operating over a limited range or over a WLAN (1803) communicating with 3GPP devices by reformatting data into IP format before delivering to the WLAN (1803). The service is Short Message Service (SMS) (102). Upon receipt of the SMS message, relevant routing information is retrieved. A PDGW (1805) address for the SMS message is identified and sent to the PDGW address which identifies the WLAN use equipment (UE) (1801) for receiving the SMS and reformats the SMS message into IP format for delivery to the UE.
