    • A method comprises controlling a mobile device comprising one or more wireless interfaces, one or more applications that require the mobile device to communicate wirelessly, and a database, to perform measuring power consumption during wireless communication in each of a plurality of circumstances in which one or more conditions are present for plural combinations of the one or more applications, and the one or more wireless interfaces and/or available access points, for each measurement of power consumption, recording in the database the measured power consumption (4.5) along with: information on the associated one or more conditions, and indicators identifying the one of the one or more applications and the one of the one or more wireless interfaces and/or access points (4.1), detecting a requirement of a first one of the one or more applications for wireless communication (4.2), utilising the database and information on current conditions to identify the wireless interface and/or access point that might be expected to cause the lowest power consumption (4.3), and using the identified interface and/or access point to allow the first application to communicate wirelessly (4.4).

    • The exemplary embodiments of this invention improve channel state information (CSI) feedback quality from a user equipment (UE) by using two different reference signals, such as cell-specific reference signals(CRS) and channel state information reference signals (CSI-RS), for CSI measurement and associated reporting. In an embodiment a method includes determining if at least one criterion is satisfied; if the at least one criterion is satisfied combining a first channel estimate based on a received CRS with a second channel estimate based on a received CSI-RS; and transmitting a CSI report to a network access node, where the channel state information report being based on the combined first channel estimate and second channel estimate. The determining of whether the at least one criterion is satisfied includes determining if the received cell-specific reference signal and the received channel state information reference signal were transmitted from the same antenna port of the network access node. In one embodiment this determination is made by the UE, while in another embodiment the UE receives signaling the network access node that explicitly indicates that the cell-specific reference signal and the channel state information reference signal are transmitted from the same antenna port.

The apparatus of the eNB comprises one or more processors to generate a high-frequency-band omnidirectional broadcast transmission to one or more first UEs in a served cell, and to generate a high- frequency-band beamformed unicast transmission targeting a second UE in the served cell. Also described is an apparatus of a UE operable to process high-frequency-band transmissions for a high frequency band including an mmWave band. The apparatus of the UE comprises one or more processors to process a first high-frequency-band transmission from an eNB and to process a second high-frequency-band transmission from the eNB, wherein the first transmission is under at least 3 dB of CE, and the second transmission is under less than 3 dB of CE.
