    • Disclosed are methods, systems, devices, and computer readable storage medium to manage a received signal strength of sounding frames at a receiving device. If the received signal strengths vary, an automatic gain control parameter may be more highly influenced by those frames having higher received signal strength. A trigger frame indicates a transmission power of the trigger frame, and a target received signal strength at an access point transmitting the trigger frame. Receiving stations may determine a transmit power for a sounding frame based on the trigger frame. For example, a path loss between the access point and receiving station may be determined based on the transmit power and the received power of the trigger frame. A transmit power for the sounding frame may then be determined, in some aspects, by adding the path loss and the target RSSI value.

    • An apparatus of a wireless device may operate with a CSI feedback protocol to encode a first NDP for transmission to another wireless device and store a ToD of the first NDP. The apparatus may further decode a second NDP received from the another wireless device and determine a ToA of the second NDP. The apparatus may decode a measurement feedback packet received from the another wireless device that includes a ToD of the second NDP and a down sampled smoothed channel estimation of a channel between the wireless devices, the channel estimation being based on the first NDP. The apparatus may also derive, based on the channel estimation, a ToA of the first NDP at the another wireless device, and calculate, based on the ToD and ToA values, a RTT between the wireless devices. The apparatus may also estimate, based on the RTT, a distance between the wireless devices.

    • Devices and methods of estimating the AoD of a STA are generally described. The STA receives and stores an association between tone and transmission angle for each tone transmitted by an AP in different angles. The association indicates that, for each angle, a tone transmitted in the angle is unique. The STA detects a symbol transmitted on each tone, determines the strength and timing of the tone and estimates the AoD based on the association and either or both the strength and timing. Each tone may have multiple symbols and/or each angle multiple tones whose characteristics are averaged to determine the appropriate characteristic of the particular tone or angle. The position of the STA is calculated from the AoD of one or more APs.
