    • A multimode/multiband mobile station and a method for operating the same are provided. A transmission module transmits multimode/multiband signals through transmitters. A reception module receives radio signals for different services of the same frequency band among multimode/multiband signals through receivers for the same frequency band, and receives radio signals of different frequency bands among the multimode/multiband signals through receivers for the different frequency bands. As compared with the conventional mobile station, the multimode/multiband mobile station can reduce the number of receivers by making use of one receiver to receive radio signals for different services of the same frequency band. The multimode/multiband mobile station can use a duplexer of the conventional frequency division duplex (FDD) technique (e.g., wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA)) in a time division duplex (TDD) technique (e.g., Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) 850 or Personal Communication Service (PCS) 1900).

    • Disclosed is a multi-mode/multi-band wireless transceiver. The multi-mode/multi-band wireless transceiver includes a tunable duplexer including transmission and reception channel filters of which transmission and reception channel filtering frequencies respectively are controlled by an external element; and a control portion for controlling the transmission and reception channel filtering frequencies to correspond to transmission and reception channels of a current service band. Thus, a use of a RF SAW filter is unnecessary, while it is possible to support the multi-mode/multi-band using a tunable duplexer. Therefore, the number of parts and volume of the transceiver can be reduced, and it is possible to weaken a specification of an RF system.

    • A diversity transmitting/receiving apparatus and method is provided, which is implemented using space-time trellis codes (STTC) constructed from a Pseudo Noise (PN) sequence set in a Direct Sequence (DS) CDMA system. The transmitter comprises a PN sequence generator, a space-time encoder, first and second modulators, and first and second multiple transmit antennas. The space-time encoder selects two of the multiple PN sequences to construct STTC, and space-time encodes data from a data source according to the STTC to output an Wary data symbol. The two modulators modulate the space-time encoded data according to the STTC. The two multiple transmit antennas wirelessly transmit outputs of the two modulators, respectively. By applying a method using space-time coding in a DS CDMA system including multiple transmit antennas, it is possible to achieve both diversity and additional coding gain and also to reduce multiple user interference by increasing the PN sequence length.

    • An amplifying apparatus for a mobile station receiver is disclosed. A low-noise amplifier amplifies a received signal to a preset level. A controller detects a level of a signal corresponding to a first frame of the received signal output from the low-noise amplifier, and generates a control voltage according to the detected level. An attenuation determining resistor determines an attenuation of the received signal. A first switching element is connected in series to the attenuation determining resistor, and is turned ON according to the control voltage so as to attenuate the received signal through the attenuation determining resistor. An impedance compensation resistor is connected in parallel to the attenuation determining resistor, and compensates for a decrease in an impedance due to turn-ON of the first switching element. Further, a second switching element is connected in parallel to the impedance compensation resistor and the first switching element. The second switching element is turned ON according to the control voltage so as to provide the received signal to the low-noise amplifier without attenuation.
