    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing carbon-based fibers by which the carbon-based fibers having smaller fiber diameters can be obtained.
      SOLUTION: In the method for producing the carbon-based fibers, when treating precursor fibers obtained from a melted mixture of a thermoplastic resin with a thermoplastic carbon precursor at a temperature which is more than the softening point of the thermoplastic resin and less than the softening point of the thermoplastic carbon precursor to obtain a stable resin composition, removing the thermoplastic resin from the obtained stable resin composition to obtain the fibrous carbon precursor, and then carbonizing or graphitizing the obtained fibrous carbon precursor to produce the carbon-based fibers, an electrospinning apparatus is employed which includes a storage container 2 for storing the mixture melted product, a melted product-extruding nozzle 5 for extruding the mixture melted product stored in the storage container 2 in a fine fiber-like state, and a collector 6 for collecting the mixture melted product extruded from the melted product-extruding nozzle 5 as the precursor fibers, to obtain the precursor fibers.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fiber-producing apparatus and a method for producing fiber wherein fibers can stably and simply produced, unlikely to cause any damage to the apparatus. The insulating transformer 7 is placed between the electric heater 2, the power source 6 for the electric heater and the temperature control unit 8, creating a closed circuit and, therefore, high voltage does not flow to the power source 6 for the electric heater and the temperature control unit 8. When the voltage is applied to positively charge the storage tank 1, the nozzle 3, and the melt 10, and negatively charge the collector 4, the charged melt 10 is discharged from the nozzle 3 into a fibrous form, and the fiber pitch 11 is collected in the collector 4. When the resultant fiber pitch 11 is heat-treated, the carbon fibers can be produced.
