    • Various arrangements of color sub-pixels in a group of pixels for use in a color display are disclosed. The same group of pixels is repetitively arranged in rows and columns in the color display. In particular, each group of pixels has four pixels arranged on the four quadrants of a rectangle or square. A pixel group may have two sub-pixels in R, two sub-pixels in G, two sub-pixels in B and two sub-pixels in W, but each of the pixels has two different color sub-pixels. In each of the four pixels in a pixel group, the two sub-pixels can be adjacent to each other along the column direction or along the row direction, but the two sub-pixels in at least one pixel are adjacent to each other along the column direction. A pixel group may have two pixels with R, G sub-pixels and two pixels in B.

    • A flat panel display includes a four-color conversion unit, a backlight control unit, a backlight module, and a pixel array. The four-color conversion unit provides a first set of four color image signals corresponding to three color image input signals based on a preliminary conversion lookup table and provides corresponding conversion scaling factors. The backlight control unit generates a backlight adjusting factor based on the conversion scaling factors. The backlight module provides a backlight output having an intensity adjusted according to the backlight adjusting factor. The four-color conversion unit further provides a second set of four color image signals corresponding to the three color image input signals based on the backlight adjusting factor. The pixel array displays an image according to the second set of four color image signals and the backlight output.

    • A display device includes a number of sub-pixels. A main region and a sub region are defined in each sub-pixel, and correspond to a first pixel electrode and a second pixel electrode respectively. The first and the second pixel electrodes are separated from each other and thereby forming a gap between the first and the second pixel electrodes substantially perpendicular to the gate lines. Each sub-pixel includes a coupling electrode, a first switching transistor, a second switching transistor and a sharing transistor. The coupling electrode is capacitively coupled with the first pixel electrode. The first switching transistor and the second switching transistor are electrically connected to a gate line, a data line, and respectively connected to the first and the second pixel electrodes. The sharing transistor is electrically connected to another gate line, the coupling electrode and the second pixel electrode.

    • An exemplary method for driving a display device is provided. At least one set of input signals is received. Finding the original signals being the same with the input signals in the signal transforming table is executed. The pixel driving signals is outputted. If at least one of the found second and third original signals is equal to zero, and the found first original signal is equal to neither zero nor maximal gray scale, at least one of the outputted second and third sub-pixel driving signals, and the outputted fourth sub-pixel driving signal are equal to zero. Then, at least one of the pixels of the pixel array is driven by the outputted pixel driving signals. The input signals is transformed into the pixel driving signals by use of the signal transforming table, thereby saving the cost and improving the displaying quality.
