    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary damper for vehicle seat, which allows light manual rotation of a backrest part without being affected by the rotating force by the backrest part's own weight. SOLUTION: The rotary damper 1 is composed of a storage body 3 and a rotor 7 connected to a backrest part. A viscous fluid is stored between an inner circumferential surface 2 of the storage body 3 and an outer circumferential surface 4 of the rotor 7. The damper further includes a vane means 8 such that it causes a large flow resistance in the viscous fluid in one direction and a small flow resistance in the other direction, and an elastic means 14 which gives an elastic rotating force.
