      SOLUTION: The negative electrode of the lead storage battery contains Ni as essential element, with at least one element selected from among W, Co, Mo, Mn, and Cr being contained. The mol ratio of at least one element among the elements is 0.3-0.8 of Me/(Ni+Me) (where, Me is one from among W, Co, Mo, Mn, and Cr). The negative electrode can be used for a lead storage battery, applicable to an industrial battery for an electric car, a parallel hybrid electric vehicle, a simple hybrid car, an electric power storage system, an elevator, a power tool, an uninterruptible power supply, and distributed power supply which require high input/output characteristics.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a lead storage battery with higher efficiency of charging property than before, and to obtain a carbon material with excellent charge acceptability used for the lead storage battery. By applying the lead storage battery, having the negative electrode containing the carbon material to which, such an additives is added or made to hold, to an electric automobile with high input and output properties, various kinds of hybrid automobiles, electric power storage systems, elevators, electric power tools, power source systems like uninterrupted power source or scattered power sources, a stable control is made possible.

The lead-based alloy powder is, for example, a lead-tin-calcium (Pb-Sn-Ca) alloy. A bismuth elementary metal powder can be used as a substitute of the antimony elementary metal powder. The lead containing powder and the antimony containing powder are mixed and a sheet is produced by a powder rolling. The sheet is cut out to make current collectors.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a pasty active material for a negative electrode, in which kneading can be carried out only with water and the utilization factor of the active material is high. SOLUTION: Lead powder of 100 pts.wt. based on lead oxide is kneaded by the addition of water of 30 pts.wt. Then, it is kneaded by the addition of dilute sulfuric acid of 71 pts.wt. with specific gravity 1.26, filtered, dried, and milled to produce tribasic lead sulphate powder. The lead powder which is based on lead oxide, the produced tribasic lead sulphate, barium sulfate, and lignin sulfonate powder as an organic expander are mixed to produce a mixture.
