    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust gas cleaning catalyst which contains an alkali metal and a noble metal, in which it is restrained that the alkali metal moves to a substrate and deteriorates the NOx capturing capacity of this catalyst and the noble metal is masked with the alkali metal and the thermal durability of which is prevented from being deteriorated. SOLUTION: This exhaust gas cleaning catalyst is provided with an alkali metal layer formed by depositing the alkali metal on a carrier having high compatibility with the alkali metal and a noble metal layer formed by depositing the noble metal on another carrier having low compatibility with the alkali metal. This catalyst is obtained by forming the alkali metal layer as a lower layer and the noble metal layer as an upper layer on the surface of the substrate having low compatibility with the alkali metal. As a result, since the alkali metal and the noble metal are parted from each other and the material of the carrier of the noble metal layer and that of the substrate are formed from the material having low affinity with the alkali metal, the noble metal is hardly masked with the alkali metal and the alkali metal hardly moves to the side of the substrate. A noble metal-suspended solution is prepared by a method for destroying an ion balance of a noble metal ion-containing solution, the carrier layer formed on the monolithic honeycomb base material is impregnated with the prepared noble metal-suspended solution and the noble metal particle-deposited base material is fired so that the noble metal particle can be deposited on the surface of the carrier layer while being distributed unevenly.
