    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device with which a user can know the correspondence state of files in a video image reproducer easily and can select and operate a target file in the video image reproducer providing a function for reproducing a still image file and a dynamic image file recorded on a recording medium while intermingling a plurality of formats, and to provide its control method. SOLUTION: The video image reproducer comprises a still image, dynamic image decoding and thumbnail creating section for creating index screens separately for a still image file and a dynamic image file recorded on a recording medium with a plurality of formats, and an OSD icon adding section for displaying whether the video image is uncorresponding or only voice is uncorresponding with regard to the dynamic image in an uncorresponding file on a screen so that correspondence state of the video image reproducer and the file is clarified.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display a more suitable video image for a user by applying image quality adjustment with higher accuracy to a received video signal.
      SOLUTION: An attribute information discrimination section 81 acquires first attribute information for denoting a format of the input video signal and second attribute information for representing a transmission characteristic of the video signal. An image quality adjustment amount calculation section 84 obtains an optimum image quality adjustment amount applied to the video signal on the basis of the acquired first and second attribute information items. A video processing section 16 adjusts the image quality of the video signal on the basis of the optimum image quality adjustment amount and outputs the result to a video display section 17. The second attribute information includes a bit rate, a resolution, and a frame rate of the video signal.
