    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To roughly uniformize flying height covering the whole magnetic disk surface, to reduce change in the flying height at high altitude, and to realize smooth contact and slide of a head slider even when the magnetic head slider is brought into contact with a magnetic disk.
      SOLUTION: A magnetic disk unit is equipped with the magnetic head slider having a magnetic head and the magnetic disk, wherein the vicinity of the magnetic head part of the magnetic head slider is brought into contact with the magnetic disk. In the magnetic disk unit, the magnetic slider has a length of 1.25 mm or less, a width of 1 mm or less and a thickness of 0.3 mm or less and friction force to act between the magnetic head slider and the magnetic disk is 10 mN or less. The magnetic head slider is constituted of four substantially parallel faces, wherein depth from a first face which is the face closest to the magnetic disk to a second face is about 10 nm to 50 nm, depth from the second face to a third face is about 50 nm to 200 nm and depth from the third face to a fourth face is 400 nm to 1 μm.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic disk device capable of increasing recording density by detecting contact between a magnetic head slider and a magnetic disk, properly controlling a floating amount of the magnetic head slider at any time, and shortening the distance between recording/reproducing elements and a magnetic disk recording surface, and also obtaining favorable reliability of the magnetic disk device, in a magnetic disk device provided with micromotion actuators, ans to provide a floating control method of the magnetic head slider.
      SOLUTION: In the magnetic disk device, a micromotion actuator generates an output signal according to rippling of a magnetic head slider 3 and monitors the output signal, and when detecting contact between the magnetic head slider 3 and the magnetic disk, a floating amount control mechanism 9 controls a floating amount of the magnetic head slider 3. Especially, the output signal from the micromotion actuator is frequency-analyzed by a frequency analysis circuit, and when oscillation components of the frequencies within the range of 50 to 500 Hz are detected, the magnetic head slider 3 and the magnetic disk are decided as in contact.
