摘要： A route guidance section compares the current position provided by a current position determination section and the route provided by a route calculation section for detecting an off-route condition. When the off-route condition is detected, a researching key as well as the route and current place is displayed on a display section. When the researching key is touched, a search is again made for a new route from the current position to the destination. Then, route guidance is again started in response to the researching result. When the researching key is not touched, the route and current place continue to be displayed while the vehicle carrying the apparatus travles off route, thereby efficiently preventing the apparatus from executing unnecessary researching when the driver drives the vehicle off route on purpose.

摘要： A vehicle navigation system realizing a discrete display of the present position of a vehicle during a period from when the vehicle reaches a predetermined distance before an intersection until the vehicle passes the intersection. Especially, in a zone a short distance before the intersection, the present vehicle position mark is fixed at the center of the displayed intersection until the travelling direction of the vehicle is changed. Thereby, even when the accuracy of monitoring of the present position is relatively low, misindication, such that the present position is displayed as if the vehicle has passed straight through the intersection in spite of not having actually reached the intersection, is avoided.

摘要： A navigation system for vehicles, capable of exactly and quickly showing guide information to a driver when two intersections to be negotiated are close to each other, is provided. A destination is input by an input part and a route to the destination is calculated from a present position of a vehicle, calculated by a present position determiner, by a route calculator included in a calculation section. The calculated route is stored in a route memory. A route guide controller included in the calculation section reads map information around the vehicle, stored in a guide information memory within a map information storage section and superimposes the map information with the present position of the vehicle, a traveling direction and the route stored in the route memory to display the superimposed information on a display. When the vehicle approaches the intersection, the screen is changed with an intersection map, but, when a next intersection map is required, the next intersection map is drawn on the back screen and is displayed by changing the two screens after the vehicle passes through the first intersection.

摘要： A navigation system for use in a vehicle including a route-calculating section and a route guide control section. The route-calculating section searches for an optimum route according to conditions set for the search. The guide control section provides displays necessary to guide the driver of the vehicle, and guides the driver by speech. This guide control has a landmark name-setting section which sets the names of landmarks according to information about the landmarks, the information retrieved from a guidance information storage section according to information about the present position from a present position-determining section. A display section displays a whole route map indicating the selected route according to instructions from the route guidance control section. At the same time, the names of the landmarks are presented on the display section. When the navigation system guides the driver to a destination via a tollway such as a toll highway, the name of an entry/exit interchange connecting to the highway is displayed. This permits the driver to take a familiar route up to this interchange.

摘要： An information center generates packets of route guidance information, each corresponding to a prescribed road length of a recommended route. The information center may generate major guide point information and guidance information and transmit both to a vehicular apparatus. The vehicular apparatus provides guidance only for major guide points based on the received major guide point information if it cannot receive the guidance information. According to another aspect of the invention, if the end of a route segment which was the subject of the preceding route guidance information is on an expressway or toll road, guidance information for a preliminary route from that end to an escape position ahead on the expressway or toll road is first transmitted and then information for a remaining route, that is a segment of the recommended route having the prescribed road length minus the preliminary route, is then transmitted. If communication with the information center is lost, the vehicular apparatus performs guidance for the preliminary route to an interchange, for example, of the expressway using the preliminary route guidance information.
