    • In a flat-type image display apparatus, thermal distortion caused by the exposure to high temperature is absorbed, thus obtaining assembly precision and maintaining it during operation. The apparatus comprises a flat type screen and a back electrode opposing the flat type screen. In the space between the flat type screen and the back electrode, linear cathodes and an electrode unit including an electron beam extracting electrode are arranged. Positioning members formed of heat-resistant insulators having guide portions for supporting the linear electrodes are attached to the electrode unit. The linear cathodes are positioned by the guide portions to keep a predetermined positional relationship with electron-beam extracting holes formed in the electron beam extracting electrode.

    • An access system for accessing a storage area network (SAN) has a shared disk device provided on the SAN, and a client for accessing a file in a file system created in the shared disk device. In the client, a functionality of accessing a file system in the shared disk device is installed as part of a user program of the client by using a dynamic link library. The client preferably has access processing means for inserting, as the functionality of accessing, access processing for accessing the file system in the shared disk device into ordinary file access processing. The access processing means being installed as a dynamic link library.

    • Between an IC card (1) and a electronic ticket server (2), upon purchasing an electronic ticket a public key cryptosystem is employed for a mutual authentication to keep a strict security, and a shared secret between the electronic ticket and a ticket collecting machine is sent on a secure channel as well as the electronic ticket. Upon usage of the electronic ticket, the IC card (1) and the ticket collecting machine (6) mutually judge whether they carry out the mutual authentication by using a public key cryptosystem or a symmetric key cryptosystem. When they determine to use the symmetric key cryptosystem, they carry out the mutual authentication by using the shared secret exchanged beforehand. When they determine to use the public key cryptosystem, they carry out the mutual authentication by using the same method as that used upon purchasing the electronic ticket. This method of mutual authentication can dynamically switch cryptosystems for cryptographic communication between the IC cards or between the IC card and a tamper resistant device having an equivalent function to an IC card installed in related servers or the ticket collecting machine, based on their judgment of the types of bearers, the required degree of security and the required processing speed.

    • A first frame includes a bottom portion, an inclined portion, a joint portion and a lateral portion for supporting a shadow mask. Between the lateral portion and the joint portion, a space is provided except where the lateral portion and the joint portion are welded. The joint portion is inclined with respect to the lateral portion such that the space enlarges with an increase in the distance from an edge of the lateral portion on the side of supporting the shadow mask. With this configuration, foreign substances can be removed from between the lateral portion and the joint portion in the process of cleaning the first frame, making it possible to both suppress the deterioration of high-voltage withstand capabilities of a color cathode ray tube and prevent the poor welding of the first frame.

    • In an image display apparatus comprising a fluorescent layer formed on the inner surface of a vacuum container, an electron emission source, and a supporting member sandwiched between the fluorescent layer and the electron emission source so that the fluorescent layer and the electron emission source are kept in parallel, a displacement preventing system is provided to prevent displacement of the electron beams emitted from the electron sources caused by the charging of the supporting member. More specifically, the supporting member may be composed of an insulating portion contacting with the electron emission source and a conducting portion contacting with the fluorescent layer. An electrode portion may be provided between the insulating portion and the conductive portion. Electron sources are arranged on the insulating substrate so that the electron beams emitted from the electron sources will be landed on the fluorescent layer with an equal pitch. The vacuum container provided with the supporting members can resist the atmospheric pressure and the supporting members will not affect adversely the images, and therefore good images can be obtained.
