    • A recording disk drive includes a restriction member located within an enclosure at a location opposed to a slant. The slant is defined on a ramp member so as to get closer to a recording disk at a location closer to the center of the recording disk. The slant is designed to receive the tip end of a head actuator supporting a head slider. If an impact acts on the recording disk drive during the movement of the head slider toward the recording disk or off the recording disk, the tip end of the head actuator tends to jump up from the slant. Here, the tip end of the head actuator is received on the restriction member. The restriction member thus serves to reliably prevent the head slider from jumping up. The head slider is prevented from colliding against the enclosure.

    • A lever and a weight are supported on a first shaft for swinging movement in a latch mechanism. The weight gets closer to a head actuator member based on swinging movement in a first direction. A restriction member restricts the swinging movement of the weight in a second direction opposite to the first direction. A swinging member is contacted with the lever swinging around the first shaft so that the swinging member gets into a predetermined path of the head actuator member through the swinging movement around the second shaft. The disk drive always allows the weight, the lever and the swinging member to start swinging from corresponding inoperative positions, even if the disk drive suffers from a sequential driving force in opposite directions due to impact. A head slider at the tip end of the head actuator member is reliably prevented from colliding against the disk.

    • A recording medium drive such as a hard disk drive includes a ramp member. The ramp member receives the tip end of a head actuator. A head slider is thus kept at a position spaced from the recording medium even when the recording medium stands still. A rectifier plate is formed on the ramp member and opposed to the surface of the recording medium at a distance. The rectifier plate serves to sufficiently suppress turbulence of airflow generated along the surface of the rotating recording medium. The suppression of the turbulence in this manner leads to prevention of oscillation of the head slider. The head slider can thus be positioned right at a target point at a higher accuracy. The recording medium drive of the type is capable of greatly contributing to a higher recording density.

    • A recording medium drive allows a latch stop member to receive a latch member. The swinging movement around a rotation shaft causes the latch member to enter the movement path of a head actuator member. The latch member thus engages with the head actuator member. The latch member has the portion in contact with the latch stop member. The portion is made of a material different from the main portion of the latch member. The repulsive coefficient can be adjusted between the portion and the latch stop member. An identical condition can be established for transmission of an impact between the head actuator member and the actuator stop member as well as between the latch member and the latch stop member. Even if impacts of different duration act on the recording medium drive, the latch member is allowed to reliably engage with the head actuator member.

    • A head actuator member is supported on a support shaft for swinging movement. A voice coil motor is connected to the head actuator member. A protuberance is formed on the head actuator member. The protuberance moves along a predetermined movement path around the support shaft. A latch member is supported on a rotation shaft for swinging movement to reach an operative position established on the movement path of the protuberance. The latch member engages with the protuberance at the operative position. A magnetic body on the latch member receives a magnetic attraction of the voice coil motor when the latch member is located at the operative position. The latch member is forced to stay at the operative position. Even if the head actuator member starts swinging later than the swinging movement of the latch member, the latch member reliably engages with the protuberance on the head actuator member.
