    • There are provided a plate-making sheet and a printing device for printing on the plate-making sheet. The plate-making sheet is in the form of a strip and for being printed with stamp characters to be engraved on a stamping face of a stamp, in parallel with a process for making the stamp, for permitting checking of the stamp characters and for indication of the stamp characters on a back surface of the stamp. The plate-making sheet comprises a backing sheet, and an adhesive sheet laminated on the backing sheet and having a surface to be printed with the stamp characters. The surface of adhesive sheet is formed with a character check area to be printed with the stamp characters for permitting the checking of the stamp characters, and at least one indication character area to be printed with the stamp characters for the indication of the stamp characters. In the printing device, a printing mechanism prints stamp characters in a character check area and at least one indication character area. A feeding mechanism feeds the plate-making sheet to the printing mechanism. A sensor detects feed of the plate-making sheet to the printing mechanism.

    • A tape printer control method including: (a) performing printing operation by driving a printing head while feeding a printing tape using a feed roller to which normal rotation power of a motor is transmitted via a gear train; (b) suspending the printing operation; (c) driving the motor slightly in the reverse rotation direction after the suspension of the printing operation to eliminate play in the reverse rotation direction produced by the backlash of the gear train without rotating the feed roller; (d) performing cutting operation for the printing tape using a tape cutter on the downstream side of the printing head in the tape feed direction; (e) driving the motor slightly in the normal rotation direction before restart of the printing operation to eliminate play in the normal rotation direction produced by the backlash of the gear train without rotating the feed roller; and (f) restarting the printing operation.

    • There is provided provide a tape printing apparatus which is capable of properly operating a tape feed mechanism and a tape cutting mechanism by the use of a single motor. The tape printing apparatus is capable of printing on a printing tape while feeding the printing tape by unwinding a roll of the printing tape, and cutting off a printed portion of the printing tape. A tape feed mechanism feeds the printing tape. A tape cutting mechanism cuts the printing tape. A single motor is capable of performing rotation in normal and reverse directions. A feed mechanism-side gear train transmits torque of the motor to the tape feed mechanism to cause the tape feed mechanism to operate. A cutting mechanism-side gear train transmits the torque of the motor to the tape cutting mechanism to cause the tape cutting mechanism to operate. A clutch mechanism is interposed between the motor, and the feed mechanism-side gear train and the cutting mechanism-side gear train, for performing switching operation to selectively transmit the torque of the motor in one of the normal and reverse directions to the feed mechanism-side gear train, and the torque of the motor in another of the normal and reverse directions to the cutting mechanism-side gear train.

    • A tape and/or ink ribbon cartridge releasably insertable into an inserting section of a tape printer has ink ribbon supplying and recovering sections in a casing of the cartridge and an ink ribbon path extending from the ink ribbon supplying section to the ink ribbon recovery section through a printing position. The ink ribbon path has a portion defined by first and a second side walls facing with each other across a constant gap. The first side wall has an opening formed therein. A shutter portion is formed for closing the opening when the upper and lower casing parts are assembled to constitute the casing of the cartridge. One of the side walls which faces to the ink surface of the ink ribbon has a wavy surface. With the opening formed in the side wall, the ink ribbon can easily be inserted in the narrow path between the first and second walls. Since the wavy surface is formed on the side wall, the ink ribbon is prevented from sticking on the side wall.

    • A tape reel device includes a cartridge case (20) rotatably accommodating a spool (22b) around which an ink ribbon (22a) is wound, and a braking means (3) for providing back tension to the ink ribbon (22a) unwound from the spool (22b).
