    • Disclosed is a ruthenium-phosphine complex represented by formula (I):�{RuX(L)}.sub.2 (.mu.-X).sub.3 !.sup.- �R.sub.2 NH.sub.2 !.sup.+(I)wherein R is hydrogen, an alkyl group having 1 to 5 carbon atoms, a cycloalkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl group or a substituted or unsubstituted benzyl group; X is halogen; and L is an optically active or inactive tertiary phosphine. A process for preparing the complex (I) is also disclosed, which comprises (A) reacting a ruthenium complex represented by formula: �RuX(arene)(L)!X (wherein arene is a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl group) and an ammonium salt represented by formula (III): R.sub.2 NH.HX, or (B) reacting a ruthenium complex represented by formula: �RuX.sub.2 (arene)!.sub.2, a tertiary phosphine represented by L, and an ammonium salt (III). The complex (I) useful as a catalyst for general syntheses or asymmetric syntheses can be obtained easily in good yield.

    • The invention relates to a method for producing an azoline compound represented by the general formula (3): wherein R1 represents an optionally substituted hydrocarbon group, an optionally substituted alkoxy group, an optionally substituted alkoxycarbonyl group, a halogen atom, a substituted amino group, a substituted carbamoyl group or an optionally substituted heterocyclic group; R3, R4, R5 and R6 may be the same or different and each represents a hydrogen atom, an optionally substituted hydrocarbon group, an optionally substituted alkoxy group, an optionally substituted alkoxycarbonyl group, a halogen atom, a substituted amino group, a substituted carbamoyl group or an optionally substituted heterocyclic group; two arbitrary groups selected from R3, R4, R5 and R6 may bond to each other to form a ring; and Z1 represents an oxygen atom, a sulfur atom or a selenium atom; comprising reacting a carboxylic acid or a carboxylic acid derivative represented by the general formula (1): R1CO2R2  (1) wherein R1 is as defined above; R2 represents a hydrogen atom, an optionally substituted alkyl group or an optionally substituted aryl group; and R1 and R2 may bond to each other to form a ring; with an aminochalcogenide represented by the general formula (2): wherein R3, R4, R5, R6 and Z1 are as defined above; in the presence of a compound containing a group 12 metal element in the periodic table.

    • The present invention has as its object to provide an iridium complex represented by the general formula: [(l r H L1 L2)2(μ-X1)(μ-X2)(μ-X3)]X4  (1) (wherein L1 and L2 may be the same or different and each represent a monodendate neutral ligand, or each cooperate with the other to form a bidendate neutral ligand; X1, X2 and X3 may be the same or different, and each represent a halogen atom; and X4 is a counter-anion). Also, the present invention provides a novel catalyst which can achieve excellent performance as a catalyst for asymmetric synthesis, especially asymmetric hydrogenation, in terms of chemical selectivity, enantioselectivity and catalytic activity, and the like.
